I'm confused
by Auchmull ini've been studying with a jw for a short time.
i started searching the internet for more information because much of what she was saying and what i was reading made sense, but i didn't trust my own judgment.
i haven't seen the ugliness that i read about here and as an outsider, it looks comforting.

i know it's a small part and all i did was ask.boy am i proud.

Why does the trinity matter... or not?
by drew sagan inhere's what i'm putting out there.
every jw has a list of teachings that they know 'prove' they are the only true religion.
while they turn to many things in order to prove their points, i have noticed a special tendancy to turn to just a few things in the end.

Why is the Victim Always Wrong?
by Warlock ini lurked here for about 6 or 7 months, before i started posting.. i have read experience after experience in which the victim of gossip, slander, abuse in the congregation is the one who is made to feel like they are the ones who need to apologize, when they are the ones that need the apology from the perpetrators of the injustice.. .
one theme that continues to repeat itself in the congregation is this: the victim is always wrong and the victimizer is always right.

Mel Gibson is out of control
by SirNose586 in.
this is some hilarious tomfoolery.
his charles manson-esque beard doesn't seem to help, either.. mel may be a powerful guy, but something tells me there'll be a price to pay for his anti-semitic remarks, even if they were made in a sauced-up state.

Boycotting Israel
by Crumpet ini see that quite a few are following the dreadful attacks in lebanon.
today i went swimming to cool off with mr c and we were discussing what ways we could make our disapproval and anger at israels actions felt, besides being human shields.
(mr c reckons i'm big enough to stop one missile, but would be pretty useless after that.

The wisdom of Edward
by Justin ini've been reading edward gibbon's the history of the decline and fall of the roman empire, and his assessment of the prophet mohammed makes me wonder about some of the religious personages with whom we have to deal.
it possess the question whether or not a religious leader or founder must be categorized as either good or evil, or if there is a gray area on which we cannot be quite precise.
without saying too much, gibbon found it necessary to address the founding of islam because this led to the fall of constantinople and the eastern empire long after the western empire had collapsed.
