Cain and Abel..... why the disagreements?
by anti-absolutism inwhen i was quite young, (about 8 years old) and i was told about the abel being favoured by god, cain getting jealous and killing abel story, i couldn't help but wonder why god was so hard on cain.
i am certainly not condoning cain killing his brother, but since god made both the animals that abel was offering and the veggies that cain was offering, why was cain looked down on?.
also, why did it seem better to god to kill an animal that abel offered, as opposed to thinking, well at least cain is only wasting some food.

BRAIN-WASHING - excellent article found on the web
by Prisca inthe article is rather long, and i was going to just post the link but i can't get a direct link, since it's from a message board.
in this situation, the questioner is not merely given authority by prestige; he may also have the power to keep the tortured person in prison, to torture him, and perhaps end his life.
[1] does the watchtower society have the power to 'keep the tortured person in prison'?.

Do they imagine that they have some sort of special powers mandate ?
by A Paduan indo elders, or other jws, convince themselves that they have some sort of divine mandate which allows them to walk over the top of people's rights ?
i know some jws who appear to simply do as they please, whether or not it infringes on anyone's privacy, or impacts on their lifestyle, or even their natural rights, and i've read posts here which would indicate that elders in particular may simply enter someone's home uninvited, and worse.
what's your experiences of this imaginary authority?

Mrs. T's big adventure.
by JeffT insince we have been married debbie and i have never traveled very much, for a number of reasons (many borg related).
when younger, i went to mexico and europe, but although shes always wanted to see more of the world, until 1990, with the exception of a funeral in nyc, debbie had never been outside washington, idaho, california and bc.
in 1990 my dad was awarded half of the nobel prize in medicine and we got to spend a week in stockholm.

Advice You'd Give Your 12-Year-Old Self?
by SYN inthis topic came up on slashdot, where some of the replies were...interesting, to say the least.. what would you guys say to yourselves, if you could send your 12-year-old self a message?.
i know that was about the age i began to read really well, and only five years later i left "the truth", so it was a crucial point in my life, as it is in the lives of many...?.
"hello self, this is...yourself speaking.
