Sirona don't extract the word modest from context. I am not saying that women who do publicly nurse are immodest, I was saying that being these women are modest perhaps they should consider the feelings of others in this matter. BTW until 1932 men could not show there breasts in public in the US. It seems that a cultural shift had taken place that compelled the legislature to see the issue as no longer a concern. Ladies I care about you all and wish only the best, I just feel that in our culture and time that openly exposing the breasts for even this beautiful and innocent and natural practice will result in making a large portion of our society uncomfortable. That is reality. Reasonable or not. Perverted or not. Prudish or not. The prevelance of these images of nursing in porn should be a clue that there are many who see the practice itself as very erotic. Myself not so much but that does not mean that if I watched that porn featuring nursing women I would not be turned on. My wife who is a wonderful lover agrees it is not a question or women's rights or concealing shameful conduct, rather it is a matter of being insightful and polite.
Here's true story, I was P.O. in a foreign assignment and at the Circuit assembly a beautiful fair skinned East Indian lady sat next to my wife and I. She whipped out a breast and suckled her child in the seat next to me. Through out the program she kept turning to tell us how she liked what she was hearing. I had to get out of there and take a walk. That does not make me a pervert or idiot or ignorant it makes me human.
Let me ask you two questions and I'd be eager to hear your answers:
1. How is your argument any different than the Taliban who mandated women to cover their bodies because men could not control their responses to skin?
2. How do you respond when you encounter an underage female wearing low-cut jeans and a short t-shirt?
1. I hope you are not equating my request that mothers cover their breasts when nursing to the repression of human rights under the Taliban. Each culture has the right to limit behavior according to social norms. It is only when these limits are oppressive or harmful that they become wrong. Asking mothers to cover themselves causes no harm or infringes upon no basic human right.
2. Yes unwanted sexual arousal can and does take place when a 17 year old girl exposes herself or flaunts her body. That is why we have laws against child pornography. And is why parents must teach there children about the image of themselves they want to convey and control the clothes they wear util they are old enough to decide for themselves. What is your point?
