i was just wondering if anyone here has ever seen the movie "the invention of lying".
if you haven't seen it it is basically about a guy who lives in a world where no one knows what a lie is.
when this mans mom is on her deathbed he tries to comfort her and makes up a story ( something no one else has the ability to do ) about a place like heaven where everyone will get to live in a mansion of their choosing.

so my husband ( who is a baptised witness who no longer attends meetings and pretty much doesn't believe any more ) asked me last night why do so many ex-jw's feel the need to keep talking about the religion even when they have been out of it for years.
i told him that in my case i still talk about it because i feel i lost so much of my life to them and i am still upset about it.
also that many people have lost families and livlihoods, etc.

ok, so my brother in law, a former elder, decided to grow a beard a while ago.
he initially grew it because he had a small rash he was trying to cover up, but that has since gone, and he has kept the beard.
he kept the beard because it made such a fuss that he decided if he shaved it off it would be like giving in to the brothers.

my husband and i were discussing what makes some people become jw's last night.
i was saying that if i hadn't grown up in it, i would have never been drawn to it at all.
i'm not a very spiritual person.

ok...so the other day my husband(he is still an active witness) starts questioning me about why i come to x-jw sites.. he said the reason people come to these types of sites,is to convince themselves that they made the right decision to leave the"truth".i told him i come here to get support from others who feel they were tricked into believing something that wasn't true.he knows i feel my life has been taken away from me because i wasted so many years following their doctrines.i told him it helps me to know i am not alone in my feelings.he is still convinced that people are afraid they are wrong, and just come here to keep finding reasons to stay away from the "truth".he doesn't understand that we know what the real truth is.. i was just curious what everyone else thought about this.do you feel we are "convincing" ourselves that we made the right decision to leave?

i'm a little frightened after reading one of the study articles in the feb.1st watchtower.. what well meaning individuals will be fighting to study with me when they read the second study article?who will help such a weak one as me build up faith and appreciation?oh yeah, and can they count their time?after all,i am baptised.. maybe i will start knocking on jw's doors and say,"hi,i realise that you are an active member of the jw organisation, but i am here to welcome you into the inactive flock.i am willing to study with you,so you can appreciate how you have been mislead for so many years.
" do you think there will be any takers?.
seriously though,i will have to start screening my calls and not answering my door(better yet,i will just let my dogs out).after 4 years of people not caring, now that they are told to,they will come in droves!
