Happy Birthday!
I know how you feel. Mine is on May 18th. I get Mother's Day cards every year from the cats and dog. And I usually end up spending it with in laws like I will yet again this year. Unless (hope hope) the weather is too bad to make the trip.
I am a member of a local SCA group(re-enactors) but since we just moved here I don't actually know anyone yet---but they are having a meeting/cookout on my birthday and they invited me to come and get a piece of Birthday Cake! So that will be nice. And I don't want to be ungrateful--but like you---it isn't the same as if some family acknowledged it. Plus I am 41--something I never thought would happen in this 'system', no children(waiting for paradise and missed my 'window'), so I am kinda' lost as to how I am supposed to handle it. Bitter-sweet...but like my husband reminded me---so are some of the best liquers! So you drink a toast to me and I will drink a toast to you! (it might be koolade tho--I don't have anything but sherry in the house at the moment!)
