Christmas arrogance
by stillin inone of the witness rebuttals that is used to belittle the christmas holiday is the one where they say that people reduce jesus christ to being just a baby in a manger, whereas the witnesses recognize him as a mighty king, a much more accurate and current way to view jesus.
a baby in a manger is a sweet sight on any day, it's true, but more is going on than meets the eye in the case of jesus.
this particular baby is the first baby to have been born without an earthly father, the immaculate conception.

When 2 want to visit.
by stillin insome of the local witnesses have been by, periodically, to check on us and say that they miss us.
i consider that a decent thing to do since they figure that we're going to die any day now from the loving god.
some have been elders, who have to always stay distant so that they don't somehow get contaminated by being too nice to us.

The boasters are the worst
by stillin inmy elder brother-in-law has always led his life the best possible way.
his talents make others' talents look piddly.
his kids are the brightest high-achievers within a hundred mile radius.

Did you wait for something special to happen?
by stillin ini pretty much fell apart for about two years while i was looking at the religion through new eyes.
i prayed my heart out for two years, begging jehovah to clear a certain thing up that the elders and the organization had perpetuated.
this was supposed to be his spirit-led organization so getting things right in answer to possibly just one person's heartfelt prayers should be an easy task for the sovereign of the universe.

Brothers with hearts. Where are they?
by stillin inone poster here mentioned how, after he was appointed as an elder, things took on a more "corporate" feel.
i was an ms and as such went, dutifully, to the bi-annual meetings with the co. i was sorely disappointed.
i had imagined sort of a round-table discussion of trends and potential difficulties in the congregation, along with a coordinated effort to help people out.

Sorry folks, not rabid.
by stillin ini phoned an older jw friend who has had some health problems lately.
he has lost a son and a wife in the last two years and he seems to be on a downward slide.
he is in a rehab hospital following surgery and i figured he could use some good cheer, which he does.. he was pleased to report to me that he had attended the memorial at a local kh and that he has been finding a lot of nurses who seem to want to know what makes jw's different, so he is racking up a good field service report and he is happy about it.

This probably sounds uppity. I'm saying it anyhow
by stillin inhas anybody else noticed a pattern that is here among us outcasts?
there seems to be, on average, a higher level of intelligence here than there is at the kingdom hall.
actually, intelligent conversation seems to be looked down upon among the witnesses.. also, the simple language skills found here seem to be above average compared to those among the witnesses.

Masters of the art of Reverse Snobbery
by stillin inthey create their own measure of what "success" is.
the reward for their endeavor is, at best, a sense of accomplishment at the end of an otherwise worthless life.
but in real-world terms, the things that pass for actual success are looked down upon as stupid, like shoveling coal to keep a sinking ship's engine running.
