Being in Texas, my local Walmart contact may not do too much, but... She probably will tell me where to go. I worked with her the last two years thru the Schools PTa. (I was the fundraising person and the Meet and greet person and somehow they always bring me back to raising money.... I love to get people excited about doing good.) so she knows me and may help a bit extra.

Also tomorrow I will find the RI area telecom chapter. We actually have a huge convention in San Antonio and my Club President will have a lot of nationwide contacts there if all else fails. I will look up the numbers at work tomorrow, and if we know exactly what will be needed.... I have before requested items from other places. Costco, Nortel, Best Buy, movie theaters, you name it... all you have to do is walk in and ask. Make a printed letter and send it to corporate heads. They actually have departments that just give out stuff and money. these places usually want to know what is needed. Paint, carpet, Electronics, clothes. All we need is a good letter, a place to donate to, and all of us to go that extra bit and ask. Ask everyone. I made 500 dollars in one day, a dollar at a time, just by saying will you help out this person...just a buck at a time.

I have a contact at the Salvation Army here too, and they may be able to direct me on some info.

I will yell at you all tomorrow after work.

Ministerial Allliance is big on the East and West coast. They keep money just for this sort of thing. There is one in each town. Not all but a big group of them. Churches joining together to help.

Anyonewant to contact one in each town? Volunteers. Email, I am so on it. I know a lady that does this all day and has contacts everywhere.....

Let me know about alliances you are aware of. There is a church alliance in my town, but it is difficult to find if you don't know the name of it. Even on the internet, I can't find them. Glad to know you have connections!

I will call the Salvation Army tomorrow and ask them about alliances in Providence, and how the SA and area churches cooperate for local drives.

There is a group called Providence Citywide Fire Network. I will contact them as well tomorrow. They might have been involved with fighting the fire at Mario's, and could have some folks there who might give us some help or backing.

It will be a little tricky in one respect, since we need to take into account that Mario is likely in a facility somewhere still. This is not usually the kind of information one would like to have as a headline, or even as part of a story; a privacy issue (even though we discuss it publicly here). People who want to advertise this may not be able to talk to Mario right away... I guess those who deal with this drive, whether an alliance or the media, will have to say he's currently unavailable for comments, because of stress... or something like that.

Once we can cajole an organization over there into assisting us, we can pelt the news stations with email requests for help in airing the drive.

More people out there, with more (and perhaps even better) ideas? Synergy is good.

Oh, btw sparkplug, I learned from hubert a few weeks back that Mario was a computer technician. ... He would go to different companies and install computer equip, etc, service, and repair them, also. He's a very smart guy.

    Hello friends,

Thank you for staying on top of this situation. Although I haven't been able to post, I've been also trying to make some headway without much success.

I did a lot of leg work on the trust account, I did a lot of other work on Mario's behalf and Talia....I'm not saying this to toot my horn. Just to let you know that Mario has obviously not been able to communicate with me for some time now....on an emotional level.

I did ask him if he and Marina would consider coming out here....I know she's in school now, but I don't think that's the right place for her either. At least, not with Tonia's family.

I'm rambling now, but just wanted to say HUBERT you have done your part, my man. Please call me at work tomorrow if you have just a moment. I'm not able to do any thing more from here.

    Lisa,

You are not tooting your horn. You have done a lot in extending compassion and help to Mario and fam.

The world needs people like you who can take charge the way you have.

My heart swells with pride and gratitude every time I come on to this thread. What a great group of folks you are!!!!

I feel rather helpless (and useless) not being able to DO something from my end of things, even trying to organize something or making phone calls is difficult, because since my first stroke, I don't speak very well, and it is a real effort in frustration to make myself understood.

I guess I'm kinda waiting by the sidelines here, to see what develops and do whatever I can do from there. I just don't have much else to say other than there have been some terrific ideas put forth and wish I could give more input.

    You guys are wonderful!

    hugs,

    Annie

This thought popped into my mind this morning. Does anyone know how to get this thread moved to the Beginning of Active Topics? I'm thinking if this can be accomplished, we can get more people involved. This isn't my regular forum and I'm not familiar with these details. I know it's huge and people have to really dig before seeing a post that started over a month ago. Generally, I don't go past the first couple of days when I log in.

It is brought back to the latest /newest in Active topics everytime someone posts on it.

Within the individual child abuse forum where it is posted it will always show on page 57, this area wont change each time it is posted to

    Update:

Well, I just got thru speaking with Major Pfeiffer from the Salvation Army headquarters in Rhode Island.

After I gave a quick rundown on the situation, he told me that recently there was a fiasco caused by a politician who raised some $ money by telling the community that his wife had cancer. She didn't, and now news channels are extremely wary about running stories to help victims. .... He told me that this is probably the reason why news channels are not giving much credence to our emails--they are very cautious now.

Maj Pfeiffer also explained that there is another problem here because of privacy laws. UNLESS Mario contacts the Salvation Army himself, they are unable to help him. BUT if he does, there is a plethora of ways he can be helped, and even if they cannot help him in one particular aspect, they would be able to direct him to an agency which could.

He was sympathetic, and said to pray that Mario posts here again so that we can let him know that there is a branch of help for him.

Now, I am thinking about contacting a church or two in that area. I will see if there is a pastor or minister who is willing to contact Mario once he returns, and encourage him to go (indeed, take him if possible) to the Salvation Army--at the very least, if they do not have a program available themselves.

I might also be able to learn of any church alliance(s), and see what they suggest.

Yahoo! I got a nice resonse from a Methodist church in Providence. I'm going to email the pastor the thread (well, probably certain posts so he can get thru it faster). I told him we needed someone over there who is able to help Mario in person, to help him connect with services, etc. I asked him to give us ideas if he had them. He was very gracious and listened carefully; I hope he can be of help.

    Here is their website. http://www.gbgm-umc.org/mathewsonstumc/

Also, here is their ministries page: http://www.gbgm-umc.org/mathewsonstumc/church_ministries.html

You can see that they do a wide variety of ministries for the community.

But we still need to have Mario "appear" so we can connect them.

Until then, I could work on finding him. I'll have to pick this back up in an hour or so.
