    Nina,

I did prattle a lot in my post, and looking back I feel silly, but if you all can bear with me, I think that you can get help for him thru the telecommunication Pioneer group, CWA and local retailers. Peoplel ove Tax write offs.. Maybe even if it is only manpower. Being here in Texas it is hard to help in RI, but the organization is across America. Just call the headquarters and I will work on a number for that if you like. Write a letter or e-mail and they have a lot of contacts and probably do in RI. Plus they do not have to make a huge spectacle of it.

    Hubert,

I know I just joined, but please Let us know when you do hear from Mario or his family and what he needs. If anything has been established or started. He really will be going thru financial he!! and hopefully if you you, knowing him well feel it is OK, we can all track down or locate sources of help, including the pledges people want to give themselves. There is a lot of government counseling and help in that area, but from my experience, that really sucks. Red tape everywhere.

You know people will not always straight up ask for help, sometimes you just have to do it and ask for forgiveness if needed after. If it is not needed or acepted there are so many other hurting people out there to help.

I really like the idea of everyone giving some and making sure he is taken care of for a bit as he heals. Sometimes it is the small things like the flower blanket that really mean a lot. And other times more drastic means of help apply. I just feel no matter what the outcome, nobody will feel bad for helping as long as they only give what they are able and never expect anything back. It has never failed me and my family. Good always comes back to ya!

    The whole group:

    Your love astounds me.

I wonder if any of the local reporters who covered the story would be willing to help set up a memorial fund through a local bank.

Then he could use the money either to take care of expenses for him and marina or to pay off what surely had to be big expenses medically and as far as funeral expenses for talia...

just thinking out loud...wishing somehow to help.

So My vote is to help Mario now.

Yes Sparkplug. We need to get moving. With that being said, seeds have been planted with two news teams in Rhode Island.

    Alright... LoT, what news teams?

Maybe we should bombard them as a group to get an answer from one of them, to ask the public to help with restoring his home and other economic needs he faces.

Truth be told, I wrote to the ABC affiliate in Providence a few weeks back, asking if they had a people-helper branch in their office, but never got a single response. So, if we decide to do something to get public attention from a news organization in Providence, then we will need to decide which one(s) and do it together. ...Kinda like the way we did it with the UN (asking them to post a letter on the web documenting the NGO status of the WTS for 10 years, which they did!).

I also want to thank you, sparkplug, for your great thoughts. I have been turning over different thoughts and ideas, but you are a reconfirmation (with good reasons) that making a public appeal will be alright.

So... could you get the numbers of the organizations you mentioned, and post them here? If you are able to contact the one organization that you are already a part of, then that would be wonderful. I will see about contacting a Wal-Mart store in the area, and see if they can assist (maybe even with donations of housing effects, if nothing else?).

Let's remember that hubert is going to be unavailable for this, so let's just act thru phone calls, networking here, and using the internet for information.

    Love you guys,

I sent two emails today. One was the ABC affiliate. I kept the messages brief, without going into detail, I gave them the link to this discussion forum. I had to give my name, address and telephone number. If I hear anything, I will pass it on.

In the meantime, I think bombarding might make a difference, especially in light of the disaster overseas taking most of the airtime.

Great minds think alike. I sent one to www.turnto10.com, which is the station that carried the news of the fire and Talia's subsequent death. Haven't heard anything back yet.

I sent my appeal to [email protected].

May I ask, is there any reason we should not begin an email drive? If not, then folks, please send an email on behalf of Mario. Perhaps it would be more noticeable for 'ehart' if the subject line contained Mario's name...

I know there are many lurkers out there as well. This thread has had about 24,000 views. There is a chance we can really get a response from somebody over there if just a fraction of the total following this were to WRITE.

Is anyone up to writing a short letter, which people can copy and paste? That will make it a lot easier for many people who feel awkward at writing. If no one is, I'll try my hand.

Edited to add: BTW, I looked up Walmart's Good.Works. program. It is not open for individuals to apply. However, it is okay for 501(C) organizations to apply. Therefore, if a group such as SBC (mentioned by sparkplug) is willing to apply on behalf of Mario (this is just an example), then they could dispense the funds or benefits to Mario.

Does anyone work at Walmart here, and have any helpful information for us??

An email drive just might work once it is decided who will be accepting/receiving the funds in behalf of Mario.

LoT... .... hmmmm. This may sound scandalous, but how about a church? I don't have any particular one in mind, but many local churches and larger denominations have special committees for local needs. Perhaps people who attend churches on this board could enquire thru their own denominations about having assistance given in Providence? I might do this myself, soon, if we can't find other good leads.

Service organizations could be good. Lions club? Eagles? I don't know much about what they do, but if someone is in one of these, they could give advice?

I'm on the west coast... I'll have time to do more brainstorming before calling over there tomorrow (cuz it's after 5 pm in Providence). But I hope we can still get a lot of decisions made before then...

Edited to add: How about the Salvation Army? I think I found their phone number. Surely they would be a wonderful help! I will call them tomorrow, and see if they will be willing to take Mario on as a beneficiary, or else give us good leads to local organizations who could do it better than they can.
