His future wife followed him from circuit to circuit making sure he knew how humble she was by cleaning the restrooms

wow, Blondie, when did you get so cynical??? Although, I think that you remind me of my best friend in the JW's just before I divorced my very popular elder ex and left/was df'd.

I guess I don't see the connection between my comment and your story, sunnygal.

Cynical...does that mean you don't believe that this woman chased him. Actually it was quite well documented in the circuit I was in and the circuits he served after that. Even then the JWs I knew were stunned at this. There were always few single JW males but in the years just before 1975 when the rumor was that there would be no marriage or children after 1975, many were looking for a spouse. That was when the baby boomer generation was coming to age in the 20's, peak marriage and baby time for women. So even in the aggressive JW marriage market back then, she stood out.

Could you PM me and tell how my statement reminds you of a friend that is tied to her husband and won't leave. You arent' comparing me to her are you? You do realize I have been out of the Borg for over 5 years and would never refuse to talk to someone just because they are DF'd, DA'd.

    Blondie (confused)

Wow. So many names, So many memories... But, If I recall correctly, nearly all the CO's that served our congregation had "special dietary requirements". The reasons they mostly told us was because of stomach troubles, either the CO's had stomach troubles or their wives had them. Maybe the spiritual food they dished out soured in their stomach after a while? (It made me sick after a while). But seriously, was this the case for your old CO's?

But, If I recall correctly, nearly all the CO's that served our congregation had "special dietary requirements".

I recall one CO in particular that had special dietary needs, it was Wickers. They were very touchy about what they ate. Also, the arrangement was that a family would sign up to cook lunch each day for the CO and wife. After field service each day they would go to the designated family's home to eat lunch. Wickers wouldn't do that, they thought that it would be best if the lunch was made and brought to the Kingdom Hall so that everyone could enjoy the spiritual feast of their presence.

So, some poor idiot would sign up to feed them and have to go in service, quit early, go home, pack everything up and reset it all up at the Kingdom Hall.

I thought that their (CO and wife) behavior was rather sickening and incredibly haughty.

Also, I remember the last time I went out in service with the CO's wife. Their last name was Johnston. We went on a coffee break. She went up ordered her $5.00 cup of coffee and walked away from the register, totally expecting someone else to pay for her coffee and snack. I sat there with my mouth agape. And witnesses claim not to have a paid clergy?

I remember one expense report put in by the CO that was read to the congregation, they charged us for a haircut.

    Lovely bunch of people.

I have a hard time remembering some, but one stands out from the early 90s. David Wells. I remember he was an excellent speaker and I was impressed when he quoted The Simpsons in one of his talks. He was of course, a total egomaniac. He wanted the young guys to kiss his ass all of the time and suck up to him. I felt he was pretty cocky and tried to keep the local body of elders on their toes. That rubbed me the wrong way because we had some very well-meaning, well-respected older elders at the time that were genuine good people - I didn't think they deserved that treatment (B__l P____s and F___k P______k). Of course, our own egomaniacal Cong Overseer R__ D___ loved the guy and marched to the same "keep everybody on their toes" drum. I can remember another from the 80s Lloyd Payne. Don't remember a lot about him (I was young) but he was soft-spoken and well respected. Heard years later that he took up with some young thing and got the boot. Who knows how much truth there is to that. If there's one thing I've learned, never trust the stories from the JWs about why somebody left or under what circumstances - it certainly makes for a lot fiction.

Everytime I think if CO's and Witnesses and the undue amount of energy, time and praise that goes to these men from within the organization I think of the scripture in Jude 16b proceeding according to their own desires, and their mouths speak swelling things, while they are admiring personalities for the sake of [their own] benefit.

I have known many a witness who has hung to the words of CO's to benefit their own selfish desires whether it be for a particalar teaching or whatever they want to pursue. The whole CO thing I find completely against the Bible in providing for them, when many witnesses don't have nice cars, clothes, spending accounts, HEALTH Insurance, bringing unnecassary praise to them instead of Christ. I have heard some of the most foolish comments when it comes to this whole arrangement, from both CO's and those that follow them.

    They are just men!!!!!

WOW what memories. like someother poster stated. In the early sixties we had as a CO, Doug and Ruth Clegg, He was a suit and business she always wore wierd tall hats, Then we had David Splane and his wife, then she did he is now in bethel. GB. Very nice and placid. His wife was very nice and kind. DO,. was Bro. Stanley older and pulled no punches yet in other ways sweet like a rolly polly grandfather, He eventually moved out west as his health was terrible./ In the northern area outside toronto we had Jack Danely old and bombastic and hoitty toittly. Wife was n't too bad, they had cliques when they visited our KH, he and wife hung around the rich brothers and sisiters. We had a German brother Klaus Ignor, what a weird one he was, but he lambasted congregation for excessive gossip going on. He said if your in a car group and they start gossiping ask the driver to stop their car or van no matter where you were and get out and say you have no intention of gossiping about a fellow Christian, That I liked about him.

Wayne Johnson DO. to buisness like. Boring speaker. forgot wifes name. Also there was David Wells.

Eugene Rosam,Zennie Pasternik, nice brother only knew him briefly I was living in Montreal when he was here in ontario. But I did meet him a couple of times.

In Montreal we had Marcel Filteau,Laurier Summuir,Leonce Crepault and first wife Simone, was at that time C.O. We had a great time together he lived in our KH. in montral. Then he moved into D. O work and simone passed away and he married a pioneer his junior her name was Kelly and she too was really nice. She was a plump gal. Very understanding. Leonce and I spent many many times together talking he and wife one would go to the Pizzarea with me and my sister many times at least once a wk.

I trusted him more than any other CO or DO.Then Leonce and Kelly moved to the Assembly Hall in Georgetown and he was now the D.O. he hadn't seen me in years and he hugged me and said to me that it was wonderful to be back in the same area.We had also in montreal. John and Lois Didur. Lovely couple down to earth.

Also there was another French DO who is now on GB his name was Stanley Shostak was from France. I believe.

. When i left the organization in 1999, the CO was Lawrence Thompson, and the DO. was Leonce Crepeault.

So these are the faces and the lives I knew while I was a part of the organization from 1963-1999.

I wouldn't call any of them favorites, but I do remember a few

Alan Stokes - whilst visiting us at home, he told me to be quiet - in my own house too!. I'd like to see him try that now

Alan Fisher - he seemed very nice (and his wife too) I didn't know she was hitting the bottle, probably driven to it, with all the lies and scandals that she was hearing

Brian Jewell - I didn't think much of him - a typical CO

There was one that we always called Paul Daniels (the magician) not that he worked magic, but he looked very much like him, I can't remember his name.

    Twinkletoes

I think the lookalike was Clive Upton
