Gary Wells was the DO at the last circuit assembly I attended. He was instrumental in my decision never to attend another assembly/convention/or meeting.

He gave a talk wherein he said that JWs married to non-JWs were kissing a corpse. He made no differentiation between people who were already married and became a JW after that. I saw one sister and her non-JW husband leave after that.

I'm glad he was nice to you.

I can't remember anybody....read all ten pages...guess being gone thirty years will do that..interesting thread though...what I do remember is they were called Circuit and District Servants...not overseers...don't recall any of them being goobers except one, whose name escapes me, he brought one of the concession stand captains at the circuit assembly a steak and told him he liked his medium rare...Wally told him to cook it himself, he was nobodies serf...other than that, not much to tell.

Such an interesting thread. Some time ago I was thinking about the people in the 'traveling work' as they say and decided that the first requirement for such a position should be humility, then as I ran down the list of COs and DOs that I've run in to in over five decades I was able to come up with exactly six that actually possessed that quality, in addition there was one DO that I just never could make up my mind about.

Don Auvinen (sp) bad heart, snoozer. Hope he's still kicking.

John Magnussun, nicest man to walk the earth, I respect this man's sincerity and his practical knowledge. He was a true "servent". Serves at Bethel now in some service dept. capacity.

Sam Roberson, big cheerleader, berater and generally impersonal and a real fire and brimstone witness. (ugh) wortheless and obnoxious.

The rest are a blur of mediocrity.

This DO John Magnuson, was a nice guy, but unfortunately for me.... he wasted 3 hours of my families time once (he just needed to transfer some good needed advice in the side room). I've had plenty of CO's Mario Beltrami, DaCinti, Perinetti, Gary Lagana, Pain (really should have been Dr, Pain). Catanzaro,

Does anybody remember Bob Link? He was a CO back in SoCal in the 60's...great guy.

Before I left we had a CO named Steinhardt (SP?) here in California who was unbelievably arrogant.... he and his wife were the best examples of walking fertilizer i've ever known.

Fangorn: How do you know Randy Stone? He was a elder in my cong. years ago. Did some temp-work as a CO back in the late 70's I think. Pretty wife and nice kids. For a company man he was alright. Last I heard, he and his family moved to Solvang, CA.

Jay Kazinski (sp?) Nice enough guy, taught us to always reply to householder "thats a Very interesting way of looking at it " instead of objecting to their veiwpoint Fix - really tall lanking guy , he and his wife were runners , she liked smoozing w/the popular elders wives Duncombs ... nice people had them along time Can't recall my favorite guys name he had thick blk hair , wore cowboy boots , they came from Texas . She had a nervous breakdown while serving our hall... they left to go back to Texas . Millers - he died of a sudden heartattack right after being in our circuit Another couple we liked , can't remember their last names though , her name was Angionette and was quite a bit younger than him .He had been in Bethel and paid a brides price to marry her . He broke his leg really badly sledding with youngsters while serving at our hall . CO's became superstitious of our hall and circuit Andrew Cole was DF'd while serving our circuit Those are some I recall . The ones in the eighties were old and stuffy ,not very friendly . By the ninties we had a pretty good run of nice guys. We had a sub CO from Peoria area that was rumored to have been in the secret service before being a witness . I never put much stock into it ,but it was fun to visualize him with an earpiece during talks and wonder if he was packing .lol He had a red face and blondish white hair really boring kind of guy .
