Apostate music
by Bumble Bee inas a jw kid, i was always hearing about not listening to certain music.
one reason my mother called me apostate is because she saw some cd's i had - she called it gospel.
some of them were decidedly what is termed "chrisitan" music in the store, some are crossover artists (chrisitian but played on mainstream/top 40 radio) and there is alot of country music that is spiritual for lack of a better word.. i was always under the impression that "unapproved" music would be songs with lyrics that go against biblical principals - sex, drugs, etc, not music that promotes good things in life, or glorifiying god and jesus.

New light for the Catholic Church
by TallTexan inthis may have been covered already, but i missed it if it was.. a lady i work with who is catholic told me that not too long ago the new pope changed the catholic doctrine on purgatory - in that now it no longer exists.
of course i couldn't help but think "hmmmm....new light....".
my question to her was "well, do all the people that paid to get their loved ones out of purgatory get a refund?".

Creatiolution. This could be the answer.
by Spectrum inthis is a continuation of a discussion i've had with abaddon.
we were at loggerheads in the beginning but i'm coming round to his way of thinking to a certain extent.
i still haven't given up my belief in an intelligent creator but at the same time there is evidence for evolution which cannot be discounted.

got my stopwatch.............
by BlackSwan of Memphis inlet's say you have 20 seconds (give or take) to make an impression on a jw.
to say something that will stick in their head and make them really think.
because you know, that once they realize you are an apostate, they will shut down anything else that you have to say.. what do you say?.

Biblical beliefs that are similar to older pagan beliefs
by M.J. ini'd like to list some beliefs within judaism and christianity that bear a resemblance to older pagan beliefs.
the wts is deceptive when they selectively point out such parallels, but only with respect to beliefs they reject.. for example, the wts argues that the origin of the concept of the immortal soul is in egyptian and babylonian mythology, both of which espoused such a concept.
but they neglect to also point out that babylonians wrote flood accounts similar to the noah story before the writing of genesis, or that baptism was practiced in pagan religions before the birth of christ.

They Tell The Elders One Thing And The Others Something Else!
by minimus inthe organization is so deceitful that they will tell the watchtower readers that the elders should deal mercifully with wrongdoers but in private letters or correspondence thru the circuit overseers, they will tell the elders not to allow "leaven" within their midst.
they say it's better to disfellowship and see whether someone's truly repentant afterwards rather than taking a chance to contaminate the congregation.......another example of their being two-faced is that they will tell the brotherhood not to buy homes, cars, vacations, etc.
unnecessarily as it could signal materialism, yet the watchtower society spends more money on real estate than we could ever possibly imagine but it's ok for them..........can you think of other things that show that the organization is hypocritical??

What made you lose your joy in serving Jehovah?
by JH inwe all started off as happy witnesses, except for those dragged into this religion by force as kids.. in my case, i found that there were way too many meetings.
then seeing the new system being constantly pushed back, and finally when i saw a lack of true love in the congregation.
and when they hinted that probably there wouldn't be any sex and marriage for the resurrected ones.

Why do the JW's demonize the Wise Men?
by jgnat infrom the chance comments from my husband and what i've read, the wise men were bad because they went off and told herod about the birh of the new king, jesus.
that description really doesn't jive with the tone of the bible accounts.
i mean, when the angel warned them off, they prudently went home without returning to herod.

Which Church do I go to now?
by jwfacts ini personally feel no particular need for institutionalised religion, but recognise it is a benefit to many people.
however i am constantly asked, "where do i go to now?
