Question : How Rich Is The Watchtower ?

from previous posters, we have had access to the watchtower's accounts (uk), and especially the related company (ibsa), but... apparantly accounts are not as easily available in america.. does that apply to canada too ?.

how much the organisation is worth worldwide ?how much profit the organisation makes worldwide ?.

i'd be interested to know.. thanks in advance.

New arrangement for field service?

i don't know if this is a worldwide thing because i didn't go the meeting where the arrangement was announced, but it's being done in my congregation anyway.

during those 6 months the member assigned to the pioneer is meant to make time to work with the pioneer as much as possible, so they can strengthen each other.

the idea is meant to be that eventually each member of the congregation will get a go.

savemysoul made a good point that i have heard often.

semi/full blow racist remarks are usually started off with "i'm not racist but..." then add some blanket statement afterwards.

so is racism now the new gay?

Heh...reminds me of an old joke:

joketeller: How does every (insert politically incorrect racial label here) joke start?

listener: Uh...I dunno, you tell me.

The joketeller then exaggeratedly looks at all the entrances to the room, under the tables, behind any nearby large objects, etc until the listener realizes they are pretending to search very carefully for any specimen of said group; who apparently might just be able to materialize out of thin air to beat the crap out of anybody telling such a joke-which is exactly what a lot of racist people actually do before attempting to share their latest idiocy with you.

I grew up with a different set of loonies; Armstrong and the Worldwide Church of God. We're talking 25 or so years ago, so I can't recall if it was actually in the literature or not, but there was much speculation by members which I seem to recall came from the top down, that the description of the locusts was actually about modern attack helicopters.

The theory was that the spinning rotors corresponded to the whirring wings of the locusts, harming only men and not vegetation must be some sort of nerve gas agent. They'd be loud of course, so the 'sound of many chariots' works out there...don't remember what the explanation of the women's hair was, though. Maybe ropes hanging down for soldiers to repel from.

Is Satan getting a bad rap?

the thread on spiritism got me thinking about all the ridiculous things the jw's in my hall blamed on satan.

like their kid getting a cold and they had to miss the meeting or getting a flat tire on saturday, thus missing field service.. i always wondered if satan is such a powerful spirit creature, why the hell would he waste his time flattening tires or causing a runny nose?

you would think he would be causing wwiii or another plague or something!.

What I find just as interesting as satan getting the rap for various nuisances in one's life, is god getting credit for others that are often far more calamitous. Like AIDS, for example...many a believer will say with a straight face that god caused AIDS to come into being to punish homosexuality. Not satan, but god. Don't even get me started on the flood or armageddon, the 10 plagues of Egypt... In fact, the only really bad thing I can remember from the bible that satan supposedly did, was all the disasters he set on Job. And that was because god gave him the green light to do so.

That's why I loved that line and the rest of the rant that went with it in Devil's Advocate: "I'm a fan of man".

Which movies make you cry?

As a kid, the first movie I remember making me cry was 'Ode to Billy Joe'....I'm a bit of a control freak, I remember my mother finding me wiping and wiping at my eyes trying to make it stop and telling me "it's ok to cry y'know"....so of course I denied crying at all and said I was just too tired, and angry that my eyes wouldn't stop watering, then went to bed to hide that I still was.

After that, there was a long phase where no movie got to me, then I saw Titanic with my wife back when we were still dating...that scene where the old man and the old woman hold hands as the water rushes in had my chest heaving.

I used to pride myself on being a stoic individual, but it seems in recent years I tear up at the drop of a hat. Whether that be because of 9/11, some natural part of the aging process, or me just letting go of a lot of the stuff I repressed over the years, I dunno.

you can get a lot of statistical information with lots of neat graphs there that're pretty interesting.

The numbers probably are skewed, most websites with any kind of statistical analysis are probably making a note of IP addresses of users via cookies, anybody with dial-up web access generates a new IP addy every time they log on to the net. So each day, a dial-up user is a new "unique" user to track. Or even several times a day, if they log on and off the net repeatedly.

I first clicked on this topic thinking it might be an interesting historical discussion, reading some of the statements in it, however, which were obviously cut and paste from a website (evident by the places where it said (here) where links were missing), and not original thoughts of the poster, I became rather indignant and somewhat worried we might have a racist on our hands:

Then I picked up on this little tidbit:

i have been a disfellowshiped joho (what i call jehovah's witnesses now) for 7 years and i still find it hard every single day!

i have just recently reunited with 2 of my 4 sisters who have taken a stand just like myself!

i encourage anyone who is struggling with the decisoin to leave or not to leave, but beleive me and the countless others, it was the best decision of my life!!!

So far, $6,600 has been spent on school tuition, books, a desk, appliances, utilities and car insurance. A woman who was a possible witness in a criminal trial against sect leader Warren Jeffs received clothing.

The fund is "just ramping up" attorney Roger Hoole said. "We're interested in helping more people." The $250,000 Lost Boys Fund was part of a settlement of lawsuits filed by seven young men against the United Effort Plan Trust, the finanacial arm of Jeffs' Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The above is an excerpt from an article I read in my local paper on Saturday. I didn't type in the whole thing, for one because it was a bit longer, and I typed it in manually, not cut and paste from online, for another I'm not sure of the legalities involved were I to quote it in it's entirety. The whole thing can probably be viewed on the web somewhere, think my local paper uses AP for national stuff. The legal precedent has interesting implications for the WTS though, I think.
