Are some people stupid or what... If the official figures were available, I bet the police in the UK shoot at least one person dead every day. In my own town I can recal three cases in my life were cops shot dead suspects, yes, in the UK. It just doesn't make national headlines because it only sells papers when you can use the word 'Terror' - personally I'm not terrified and I wish the media would stop bigging up the so called terrorists. If it wasn't for the media covering everything so much, the 'terrorists' wouldn't have a stage at all and probably wouldn't bother blowing shit up, because they wouldn't have any publicity.

Comparing shooting a suspected bomber running from arrest to the death penalty is stupid... In that situation what would you do?

    1. Let him run into a crowded area?

    2. Stop him from reaching a crowded area by any means necessary?

Hey hold on a minute! The reports I read suggested that there we wires, and a suicide belt, I realise 5 rounds close range in the chest is harsh, but if there was any chance he might of exploded the bomb you can understand that they'd want the suspect very dead, very quick.

I believe the police were completely justified in shooting him dead. They were confronted with extraordinary circumstances and responded with extraordinary force.

Given the fact that in the last two weeks eight people either blew themselves up or attempted to blow themselves up, and then this guy goes running through the train station wearing a heavy coat in the middle of summer... I would have pulled the trigger myself without hesitation.

The Moslem world likes to say that the west brought these terrorist attacks on ourselves… well… by their actively supporting terrorists financially and materially, and passively supporting terrorism through inaction, Moslems have brought themselves under extreme suspicion.

The simple reality of the matter is that it is impossible for terrorist organizations to function without the surrounding community being aware of it. There is too much activity and movement of people and equipment to go unnoticed. Sure, they may not be hauling bombs around in plain site, but there is a lot of activity in places where it should not be and this calls attention to itself. I am in the habit of paying attention to what is going on in my neighborhood and when I notice changes in the patterns people follow, I notice it. When I see people go places and doing things that are different from what everyone else is doing, I notice it.

When I was a kid there was a house next to ours and a new family moved in. It did not take very long for us to notice the traffic of people going in and out of the house all hours of the day and night. It also did not take very long for us to conclude that it was a crack house – and called the police to report it and shut it down.

There was also another house down the road that was abandoned. It didn’t take very long for us to notice that every now and then some teens would sneak in and then come back out after a few hours. It also didn’t take very long for us to realize that they were sneaking in there to smoke pot.

The same applies to any organized activity – legal or illegal. The surrounding community ALWAYS notices and by not reporting such activities the Moslem community is passively supporting terrorism through inaction.

    Oh DH agreed!

I wish the press would stop bleeding this terror thing for all its worth. They are making things ten times worse by hyping it all the time.

They should let the ordinary people of Britain get on with leading their ordinary lives. If anyone goes down Birmingham markets any day of the week you will see every nationality mixing like old buddies, just getting on with it. Old white men carrying shopping bags for old asian ladies, and bald headed blokes chatting to old jamaican chappies. To me thats the real spirit of England, not all this 'terror' nonsense.

(KK gets all maudlin for the magnanimous human spirit found in REAL people, but not newspapers)

A man shot dead by police hunting the bombers behind Thursday's London attacks was unconnected to the incidents, police have confirmed.

A Scotland Yard statement said the shooting was a "tragedy" which was regretted by the Metropolitan Police.

The man was shot dead after police followed him from a south London flat to Stockwell Tube station on Friday.

Two other men have been arrested and are being questioned after bombers targeted three Tube trains and a bus.

The statement read: "We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell Underground station by police on Friday 22nd July 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.

"We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday 21st July 2005.

"For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets."

The statement confirmed the man was followed by police from a block of flats that was under surveillance.

The man's death is being investigated by officers from the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards, and will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Yep, thats the question. Why did he run?

Reports indicate that it was obvious that there were a lot of visible guns, telling him to stop. It doesnt make sense.

Given the recent events in London, are we to expect to be shot in the head if we try to board a tube train whilst carrying a rucksack? It is an impusive panic reaction and not the kind that any civilized person can accept as right.

The police ought in this case to be held responsible for their actions. There is one thing for sure their actions wil only serve to increase racial hatred and suspision!! Would they have shot if the suspect had been white? Given the circumstances I think not!

I'll wait till all the facts are available to pass judgement, but my bet at this point is that the policemen eff'd up big time. If so, the circumstances of the past couple of weeks are certainly mitigating need to be taken in consideration when dealing with the policemen involved, and yet society can't allow it to happen unchecked. Civilization is built on the rule of law, not the rule of the lawman.
