When I first read the article I though "jeeze they're paranoid!" but then I realized that they guy with the heavy coat could be wearing explosives, and if he were not properly restrained he could easily detonate his load. So I can see the reasoning behind the shooting. Even if he was just wounded, he could have detonated himself. If he was completely innocent why did he run? Even if the cop had his gun out.

that was my first reaction too. But later bulletins have said that they are trained to do that if they are sure that he may have bombs on his person.- This guy failed to stop when commanded to and was muffled up on a summers day. What was beneath?

OMG! He was being pursued it would seem covertly by our specially trained cops, no doubt in plain clothes when all of a sudden they start chasing and shouting at him. He may have thought they were just your average yob/criminal types after him. He may have not understood the commands but I guess he got the message when he was tackled and shot 5 times.

    So we learn

if you get chased in london by a gang ...let them catch you and kick the £$%& out of you...just in case they are cops.

Yes and if you are feeling cold....do not wear a coat.

Perhaps they did this on purpose, and it is a clear message to the terrorists that they will shoot first and take prisoners later. That's what crossed my mind ,,, *shrug*

My respect goes out to the Londoners, who are handling this with such quiet dignity. It reminds me of the IRA bombings, a truly horrible time, there was a lot of bloodshed for a long while ... :(

I watched TV yesterday, waiting for Blair's press conference. I was rather disgusted when he turned it into an exercise in political back-slapping with the Aussie PM, and so were the Cdn newscasters. They cut him off and said "we will return to the press conference when Mr. Blair again starts discussing the bombings". lmao! A bit of brevity at a most solemn time.

Rest assured, that our arms are held out across the water to our Brit cousins, as they are to our American cousins south of us, and all the world, in this time of crisis.

Its one of those situations that are impossible to call unless you were there.

I get complaints every day from parents of kids who have gone home to their parents with tales of complete woe because I have given them a detention FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. The parents phone me up as MAD AS HELL wanting to know why on earth I am being such an irrational asshole picking on their kid for no reason.

Once I explain my side of the story then the parent is as mad as hell at their own kid for lying shouting, cheeking, throwing things in class etc

Its so easy to think that one party is totally innocent and the other party has picked on them (or shot them ) for no reason at all. I dont believe anything is as simple as that.

I think we should wait until we have all the facts before hastily jumping in to condemn the police

Mark Whitby, speaking to BBC News 24, reported the man was shot five times at close range after he had jumped on a train.

Mr Whitby said he was sitting on the Tube train reading his paper as it was stationary with its doors open in Stockwell station.

He said he heard people shouting "get down, get down!"

He said: "An Asian guy ran on to the train. As he ran, he was hotly pursued by what I knew to be three plainclothes police officers."

He tripped and was also pushed to the floor and one of the officers shot him five times.

"One of the police officers was holding a black automatic pistol in his left hand. They held it down to him and unloaded five shots into him. I saw it. He’s dead, five shots, he’s dead."

He reported the man did not seem to be carrying a weapon or wearing a rucksack.

"Somebody in plain clothes who I thought was a civilian cop had his gun out and started shooting and told us to get out."

    From 'The Times'

Well I think we have the relevant facts...what circumstances would allow you to 'condemn the police'.....are there any? ISP

i thought london police were unarmed. no?

after the bombing 2 weeks ago the "bobbys" were walking around at the airports with assault rifles!! I was thinking, "have they been trained to use those?"

    Times have changed.

Would they be the same if you told the parents that you just killed their kid?

Thank goodness the bullets fired into his body didn't detonate all those explosives he was carrying.

He said: "An Asian guy ran on to the train. As he ran, he was hotly pursued by what I knew to be three plainclothes police officers."

If this account is true, then, well, that's what you get for running from the police.

I've been vocal on the other thread in saying that some searches are a violation of rights but in any event, if a cop stops you for any reason, ya got to listen to him. If he violates your rights or does something wrong, you've got to fight that in a lawsuit, fighting him then and there is gonna get you arrested or shot because all the other cops are gonna come to his aid and assume you're a perp.
