It appears that, as of today, the US will surpass Italy in number of COVID-19 cases, and very well may surpass China today, though likely not until tomorrow. Over 10,000 new cases in the US today for a total of over 78,000.

NYC area (NY, Jersey, Philadelpha) is the hot bed of new cases with about 7,000 new cases. Michigan and Louisiana are increasing at an alarming rate too.

I don't think this is going to be over by Easter Sunday.

What’s going on in US, surely they’ve locked the entire place down?

How long have they been enforcing social distancing?

Here in the US, we are "pretending" to have "Stay at Home" orders. Most of these orders have been effect for less than one week. Here in the Midwest, it started Monday or Tuesday (so 4 days ago max).

Pretending is the word, because I'd estimate 75% of working people are exempt. Example: Agriculture is exempt which makes sense as we don't want to starve having no harvest in the Fall. BUT, the illegal Mexicans that mow the lawns are also "agricultural" workers.

Walmart is open (and parking lots are full of people shopping for toilet paper), as are all grocery stores, drug stores, hardware and home building (Home Depot & Lowes) stores.

Closed are restaurants, gyms, and similar service providers. Banks have drive up only. Restaurants can provide drive thru service, delivery, or carry out service. Churches are (voluntarily) closed. Funeral homes are closed to conducting funerals except family (limited to 10 persons).

Construction workers are working (but supposedly maintaining 6 ft "social distancing").

60% of the new cases are 50-100 miles of NYC.

I don't see it slowing down anywhere here yet, but it's really too soon to expect to see that.

    Thanks DOC.

Thats virtually Australia’s policy also, and has been in place for while, though we are far behind US in terms of community transmission. Australians are expecting even tougher laws soon that will see total closure. It does seem the USA has been a little slow to jump.

USA is the "world leader" again!

    This time in COVID-19 cases.

The US passed up Italy and China today.

I'd say there will be over 100,000 cases here by the weekend.

There's well over half a million confirmed cases worldwide now, which means the real count could well be in the millions.

Not only did China release this thing, they also bought up everyone else's medical supplies on the QT before the world knew what was going on.

They fucked us, they should pay.

Canada shipped 16 tonnes of medical supplies to China in February. What fucking morons we have in charge.

China bulk-bought medical supplies abroad before coronavirus crisis hit

As the coronavirus took hold in Wuhan in February, staff of a Chinese government-backed global property giant were ordered to buy up vast quantities of western medicines and medical equipment to send to China.

Sources within the company told the Sydney Morning Herald that it was an international endeavour by the Greenland Group to scour the world for bulk supplies of surgical masks, thermometers, antibacterial wipes, hand sanitisers, gloves and paracetamol for China’s health system.

According to a company newsletter, the Greenland Group’s overseas offices brought up three million protective masks, 700,000 hazmat suits and 500,000 pairs of protective gloves from “Australia, Canada, Turkey and other countries”.

Spain bought testing kits from China and apparently 80% of them are duff and don't work.

Don't expect the medical supplies you get from China now to be any good, they will keep those for themselves and ship the world their shitty seconds that put people's lives at risk.

A combination of China and our own politicians, owned by China, have done this to us.

    Make. Them. Pay.
