Perhaps all of these ancient diminished mentally capable baby boomers need to be put to bed. Biden mentioning the tragic evens happening in Houston and Michigan.

Maybe Biden needs a bedtime nap, 'cause those weren't the cities involved. Poor sleepy Joe ...

"May God bless the memory of those who perished in Toledo. May God protect them,” Donald J. Trump

Looks like Sleepy Joe isn't the only dotard.

It has been said before: Guns do not kill people. People kill people.

No, people with guns kill people.

The level of gun violence in the United States is completely outsized compared to what's seen in other wealthy countries. In fact, the rate of gun violence in the U.S. is higher than in many low-income countries.
Those are the findings of the latest version of an annual report on gun violence from the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, which tracks lives lost in every country, in every year, by every possible cause of death.

The above is from an excellent article published by NPR.

The US has more guns than people, relatively easy access to military style weaponry and high capacity magazines and a culture that adulates gun ownership as a God-given right. When you combine that with anger, alienation and hatred, you have disaster. I would hesitate to say that Trump is to blame outright but he hasn't helped, that's for sure.

Wow, Trump incorrectly said "Toledo" at one point ... and it's a huge crime? Seems like he could have got mixed up with El Paso (sound kind of similar).

But the same people make no mention of Joe Biden getting both cities wrong, with no "sounds like" explanation whatsoever.

Are you really concerned he said "Toledo"? Is it really the greatest thing to focus on? Is that all you have to complain about?

If you are complaining it maybe says more about you than him ...

Your chart looks fine but it doesn't show the complete facts.

While England and Wales have a miniscule percentage of gun homicides compared to the US, I bet they could beat the hell out of you with a with billy club.

Showing gun stats for the US as a whole is misleading and unhelpful IMO, it's such a huge place with massive differences between areas.

There are places in the US where gun crime and death rates are right up there with the worse countries in the world like Guatemala, some are even higher - Baltimore and Chicago for instance (fun fact, the top cities for crime in the US are all long-time democrat controlled - they have no solution to this, they are part of the problem).

Is the US top for mass shootings? No, not by a long way - does that mean some things shouldn't change and there isn't a problem? Of course not because there is definitely some issue.

There's certainly a problem in the US, but anyone who thinks they can solve it by simply "banning guns" is extremely naive and not serious about looking for a genuine workable solution.

I suspect that the sad truth is that many who woke up to this news and found it was a white guy were secretly "happy" because it gave them an excuse to claim Trump caused it. The leftist Warren supporter who did the follow-up shooting was an inconvenience that they now tip-toe around.

We're still waiting for the left to condemn and disavow that violence ...

RubaDub--That might be true but it is awfully hard to kill and wound multiple people in a few minutes with a billy club.

Is the US top for mass shootings?

Simon--it is not about being top for mass shootings. There are plenty of other countries that have more gun deaths than the US. But you have to compare apples-to-apples. Those countries who DO top the US include El Salvador, Guatemala, the Philipines and other third-world countries with serious economic, gang and drug issues. When you start comparing the US with other developed/prosperous countries, the difference is staggering and you cannot simply explain it away by invoking the oft-misused canard of mental illness. For example, Japan has 0.04 gun deaths per 100,000 people, the UK has 0.06 per 100,000, while the US has 4.43 per 100,000.

And why is it misleading to show gun stats for the US as a whole? Gun owners can travel from state to state and gun ownership is defended vociferously under the Constitution, which applies to the entire country.

And who said that the answer is as simple as "banning guns"? Of course, other issues are involved. Yet, the cost of lives that we have seen recently due to mass shootings means that serious steps have to be taken--it is naive to think that serious gun control does not need to be a significant part of it.

They may not kill you, but you would have welts all over your body for a few weeks. Trust me on that. I have seen a lot of the old British movies and what those Bobbies can do with a billy club.
