I suppose the only reason for heterosexual only marriages was to fill the earth and have a traceable line to the Messiah. That wouldn't have happened at the pace it has if there was gay marriage.

The earth is filled. Prophecy fulfilled.

Now we can get on with our lives the way we want. Nothing has to fit perfectly anymore because children are not as in demand as they once were.

Another thing: Heterosexual marriages have not proven very effective in longevity. Why not try it the other way? Hmm?

Let's face it, guys understand guys and gals understand gals better than the mixed combo of guy and gal. There has to be an advantage in that, right?

9 What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10 nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.

Okay, so men who lie with men shouldn't be allowed to get married. Gotcha... Do you see something in the above scripture that I don't? Is it like a form of "Context Dyslexia"? When you look at it, does it seem to actually say...

"Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God's kingdom. But HOLY SHIZNIT especially not those disgusting men who lie with men! They're the worst, let me tell you! Special sanctions against those sorry bastards!"

Is that how it reads to you? There is nothing "slick" about the simple recognition that the Bible identifies homosexuals right along with fornicators, greedy persons and drunkards. And so we have to deal with that--if we're going to be using the Bible as a basis for making decisions about homosexuality. So let me ask you...

Should fornicators, greedy persons and drunkards be denied the right to marry?

This discussion reminds me of those of the war.

There are very strong views for staying the course.

There are very strong view for withdrawl.

Most of however agree that the individual military personnel (R&F soldiers) deserve support.

    Some are pro

    Some are against

but most of us agree on treating each other with mutual respect even though we disagree on the matter.

....wonder what the next 'hot' topic on JWD will be?

I for one am against homosexual marriage, just my personal opinion, I don't like having to like and accept anything as valid just because some court full of kooks thought it was. But being gay has been a bitch for a lot of people, and others imo should just leave them alone, they have upbuilt parts of San Diego's Old Town area turned it from a place one wanted to stay away from to a place that is upbeat and safer than it had been in years. My brother lived in an area where there were a lot of gays and he had to travel a lot, had several friends who would watch his place for him in his absence. He my brother is straight his friends at that time weren't but they were "friends" nevertheless. So quit bashing people who have a different opinion and have a different life style, if it isn't illegal then by gosh its legal. They the gay were born that way they didn't choose it either. But bashing and calling ignorant those who don't agree with the gay life style isn't being anything more than reverting back to being jdubs, bash those who don't agree with ya is a jdub philosophy not an adults.

but it might be nice to take it out of everyones face. I couldn't care less whether you want to get 'married' or not, although male gays seem to revel in promiscuity so I don't know what a gay marriage is supposed to symbolize,

I just had to comment on this.

Like straight men do not "revel in promiscuity????? Straight married men having affairs is almost expected in society today - look at the skyrocking divorce rate in every age sector and all the men cheating on their wives. As a gay man who was celebate all through my 20s as a JW and couldn't stand it anymore and left at 30 to finally be who I am I find it offensive that you any and some others here just brand every gay man as a sexual maniac and stereotype all of us gay men. However I wish a lot of other straight people were like you wouldn't care and just live and let live and.

I don't care what consenting adults do in private, but the question isn't about that, its about public policy. A lot is involved: tax deductions, inheritance rights, the right to refuse to testify in court; to name a few.

Personally I think marriage is a religious institution that ought not to involve the government at all.

Government registration of marriages is a relatively new invention. Prior to a few hundred years ago marriage records were kept by the church. If people want to form partnerships of some sort to cover the necessary public policy parts they can form a legal partnership, or the state can establish some sort of domestic partnership law. "Marriage" would be a religious function managed by whatever church you belong to. If you can find one that will marry a man, a woman, another woman and a guy in a clown suit that's fine by me, and you get whatever benefits said church wants to give you.

I didn't say anyone was stupid - I said they were ignorant. We are all ignorant sometimes, myself included.

There is an interesting documentary on Stupidity. I highly recommend it - very interesting on what the definition of stupidity is in our society and our world.
