Seven Trumpets of Revelation
by Zico ini read on here that the society teaches that the seven trumpets of revelation are representative of seven conventions held in america in the 1920. is this actually true?
is it old light?
i asked some witnesses but they all gave me a look like i was weird and said it couldn't be right, and i can't check the watchtower library as i can't get it on my computer (apparently the society doesn't think mac users are worthy of the 'good news') i mean... it would be a bit...odd, wouldn't it?

Does it matter if they're happy?
by Zico inthis is something i am conflicted about.. since leaving the jw religion, i have generally thought there are many jws i should leave alone.
if they are happy in the religion, i reasoned, why try to force a change in their beliefs, particularly among those older jws who have spent so long serving the wts?
certainly, i'd be willing to help any jw who clearly didn't seem to fit the religion, or couldn't live up to its rules, but there are some jws who i think would be happier in than they would be without it.. otoh, i have been thinking recently, that these jws by their presence in the religion, are providing the power to the society that allows them to damage/ruin so many other jws lives, so perhaps it doesn't matter what one jws personal situation is, perhaps i should be trying to 'free' everyone i can in an attempt to contribute to the society's eventual downfall.. what are your opinions on this?.

Disfellowshipping in action
by Zico ini have not been around here for a while and have mostly moved on from things related to the watchtower society, i'm pleased to see so many new people who have managed to escape.
i recently heard a story about a brother from my old congregation that i thought demonstrated what an awful religion we had, and decided to come back to share it.. sadly, this brother's mother had died, at the funeral, he was introducing a friend of his mother to various relatives but then came across one man he didn't recognise "sorry" he said to the man "i don't recognise you?
" thankfully, one of his non-believing relatives was on hand to help "that's your son!

Faith healing
by Zico inlast month a friend of mine went to a christian conference in the uk, when she told me about this, she was quite excited, apparently, she had witnessed a miracle.
she saw a women's leg grow 1.5 inches!
previously, it had been shorter than the other leg due to a skiing accident, but now, both legs are the same size.

New Scientist - "Blood doesn't always save lives"
by Zico ini got sent a .pdf copy via e-mail today about blood transfusions that's causing a lot of excitement among local jws.
it was one of those 'look, scientists say we're right' e-mails.
it was in the april 2008 issue of new scientist magazine.

Personal observations Re: former religious members
by Zico init seems to me that many (not all) agnostics/atheists on here, as former jws, seem to grow quite an adversity to religion as a whole, seeing any kind of religion as harmful, and when they make such critism, those on the board who have maintained religious beliefs often point out to them that they need to distinguish between the effects a mainstream religion, and a high control religion has on someone's development.
i've generally found that people who had religious parents, but were raised in 'mainstream' or moderate religions but stopped attending don't hold any grudges or ill thought about the religion they were raised in as children, whereas those i know who were raised in the jehovah's witnesses and left, are usually quite anti-watchtower (myself included!
i thought about this, after a general discussion at work today, when a girl in my office, in her late 20s, and who was recently married made a comment that i found surprising.

New arrangement for field service?
by Zico ini don't know if this is a worldwide thing because i didn't go the meeting where the arrangement was announced, but it's being done in my congregation anyway.
during those 6 months the member assigned to the pioneer is meant to make time to work with the pioneer as much as possible, so they can strengthen each other.
the idea is meant to be that eventually each member of the congregation will get a go.
