For me it was the Mexico/Malawi double standard the Society had in the 70's. After reading Ray Franz's Crisis of Conscience , I started researching more and more. Was in the process of writing a DA letter when 2 elders cornered me at a local gas station. After some bullshit talk, I told them both to go Fu-k themselves and was DF'd about a month and a half later. I came to find out that I had actually DA'd myself when I told those two elders I wanted nothing more to do with the WTS.

what do you think about the wts prohibition on beards?
currently in the us, i think a brother can wear a beard, he just won't be used in the congregation.
i see all references in the wt to beards are in a negative light, such as the supreme court upholding a supermarket chains no beards rule.
It's portrayed as something that could prevent a JW from giving a witness, as the householder may associate the beard with something that would prevent them from listening.
I ask you, Whats more of a stumbling block: A man with a well groomed beard or the WTS joining up with the dreaded United Nations??????

i was at the grocery store, wheeling a cart about 1/4 full.
the desire to have some cigarettes was so overwhelming that i avoided my family members with me at the store, grabbed two packs of my favorite brand of cigarettes and hid them under the growing pile of items in my cart.. it was about that time that i woke up.
and very briefly, until i came to my senses, i felt that it was no use to even try if i was going to be so weak as to sabotage my own efforts to be strong..
I could go for a smoke right about now. A good cigar and a glass of wine.

i had "met" a few gals when i first left the wts (seven years ago) who talked about this convention....one was from western ny....but i have since lost touch with them and lost their email addies years ago.

yesterday afternoon my older son, karl, who is studying musical production at brighton university, came round to see his family.
he had just been to see his pregnant girlfriend, who is staying with her mum and dad for a week.. karl is a wonderful boy; the type of son any parent would be proud of.
he is loving, considerate, respectful and has never once caused any trouble or been in any.
I'm sorry to hear that Ian. Glad he is alright though.

I would like to try and make it for one day, Saturday the 21st looks good on my calender. I live in Upstate New York, but would be willing to go on Saturday to check it out. Anyone have directions to this place coming from say Syracuse NY? I assume I would go down interstate 81 into PA somewhere. PM me.
we are just friends and we talk maybe 3 or 4 times a year, just to catch up.
well today, actually 5 minutes ago he said he was going to be in my area with in the next month and wants to have dinner.. i don't see a problem with it.
i haven't seen him in years and it would be nice just to meet up for dinner and some laughs.

i grew up in the troof in auburn, ny then moved to ithaca, ny with my wife in 1990. we then were at the owego kh on and off in 1995-2000. i was hoping some of the members of this board might be friends that might have gotten out also.
