Why I Disagree With Affirmative Action
by snowbird inquietlyleaving asked this of me on another thread:.
but snowbird i have to ask you why you disagree with affirmative action.
one of the best things about a policy of affirmative action is that an establishement is saying 'you are welcome here' to minorities and that 'we regret that we excluded you in the past'.. while i acknowledge the good that affirmative action has done, ql, i've also been a witness to its downside.. let me explain: i was once sitting for an examination for a state job, and i overheard a conversation between two other ladies who were also taking the exam.. one commented on how difficult the exam was; the other somewhat flippantly replied that it was ok if they didn't do their best because the state of alabama is an affirmative action employer.

limited ambition at work raises risk of job loss?
by serendipity ini am very fortunate to have a job, but i have no real ambition to move up the corporate ladder.
this is a white-collar environment and i'm lower level management.
i get the feeling that all people in my position are supposed to be ambitious.

Would you tell your JW coworker you used to be a JW
by serendipity ini've realized a new employee is a jw, because he likes to leave jw literature on his desk and because he mentioned "congregation responsibilities".
i am debating whether to tell him of my jw past.. the main reason for considering this is because i had mentioned to another coworker "g" that i was raised as a jw, before the jw's arrival.
if the jw tries to witness to "g", "g" might reveal that fact.

Superman, the Klu Klux Klan, Copyright and the Watchtower Society
by DT inhere is an interesting portion of an article.. "almost too weird to believe: writer stetson kennedy infiltrated the kkk in the late 1940s, and learned the powerful organization's secrets but nobody would publish them.
meanwhile, the superman radio program needed a villain to replace the nazis.. according to mental floss magazine, kennedy managed to work all of the ku klux klan's most secret recruiting and organizational practices into his 1940s radio serial, "clan of the fiery cross.
" and as a result, the man of steel dealt a crushing blow to the racist organization: .

I think I've reached that point in life where I hate my job and will always hate my job
by Elsewhere inremember when you were a kid and you saw the funny bits in shows about how someone hates their job and just goes to work to pay the bills.
i think i've reached that point in my life.. i hate my job.. i used to love the work i do... but the way a corporation crushes your soul and leaves you as an empty husk of your former self has finally taken its toll on me.. i used to look forward to the challenges of work... now i wake up, go to work, do what i have to do to get through the day and then go home.. .
it's totally absurd but i find myself literally fantasizing about winning the lottery so i can get my soul back..
