Plausible creation to salvation?
by jaffacake inthe genesis of a complex world of persons, by successive stages of emergence from blind primal energy, through the development of stable atomic compounds, self-replicating complex molecules, the development of cells within highly structured organisms, the formation of central nervous systems, culminating in conscious, free and responsible life-forms, seems to be a miracle of elegant design.
its beauty is breathtaking and its final purpose, revealed in christ - the transfiguration of all humanity into god, eventually, would be of absolutely overwhelming value.
(see ephesians 3:11 & 1:5)

by jaffacake inmy 11 year old daughter goes to a catholic school.

No paradise Earth?
by jaffacake ini was on the beth sarim jw reform site today and read some interesting threads from all sorts of folks, including some bible students (you know, of the ones that started off the watchtower but refused to follow the apostate rutherford when he succeeded in his legal coup for control when russell died).
i never could understand the doctrine of the paradise earth hope, which the jws seem to confuse with the millennial kingdom.
anyway, i stole a bit of someones post which i found interesting:there is not one scripture that relegates the hope for those who follow jesus in the narrow way to anything but heaven?

If they weren't so worldly, then I might...
by jaffacake inafter a roman catholic childhood, i spent my teenage years becoming a seventh day adventist, being baptised by immersion at about 16 years old.
whatever i now think of their doctrine, i worshipped with lovely people who were truly christians.
if i need to find a congregation, even just to pay a one-off visit, it could be my local adventist hall, you never know.

I now consider myself to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by jaffacake insix months ago i knew nothing about the watchtowe religion.
i had not read my bible for more than 25 years, and had gradually drifted between atheism and agnosticism, without giving any thought to what those terms meant.
then my lifelong friends started studying with jws.

I need advice about my studies with JWs
by jaffacake inhit my first real hurdle studying with an elder.
i couldn't accept acts 15 as a basis for a governing body.
instead of studying the chapter i was diverted to the fds, the 144,000. i couldn't see any link with the little flock.

What is the most accurate translation....
by jaffacake ini have just read a couple of excellent booklets ordered from r watters freeminds site dealing with the tetragrammaton.
the nwt seems to be an accurate translation of hebrew scriptures, and correctly reinstates an english alternative to the tetragrammaton.
but they nwt new testament is wholly unacceptable (although the kingdom interlinear portoin seems excellent).

Can someone tell me whether a 1970s Watchtower .............
by jaffacake inclearly stated that christ is not the mediator for christians today, not even jehovah's witnesses.
but that he is only the mediator for the faithful & discreet slave class.
it then follows that most of the bible was not written for the rest of us who must rely on the eartly organisation as our mediator for salvation.
