Identity Cards
by Mysterious indid you hate them as much as i did?
i always tried so hard in school to make sure that no one saw it.
it tries so hard to be unobtrusive on the front, but how embarassing in high school if people think you have some kind of "lost child" card on you.

You can say "hi" you know
by Mysterious inso i'm home for a break and my mother comes in to my room to have a serious chat with me.
she tells me that two young people from the congregation i went to that im related to are now living in the same town as my bf and she tells me i might see them up there and she wanted to warn me.
i pretty much looked at her blankly and said um ok why would you think that was so important.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses Admit to Brainwashing Their Children?
by Mysterious ini recall it was always a buzz word when i was in to "inculcate" your children (deut 6:7) the belief system.
i don't remember exactly what they taught inculcate to mean but i decided to look it up: inculcate .
to impress (something) upon the mind of another by frequent instruction or repetition.

Were your parents hypocrits?
by Mysterious indid your parents hold you up to higher jw standards than they held themselves or force you to live up to things they never did if they were raised in the truth?.
i know when my mother was a teenager they used to watch bewitched all the time and no one took it seriously.
they never missed an episode.

JW/Bethel -- sending brothers to be educated?
by Mysterious indoes anyone remember an emphasis being given that smart brothers that were sent to bethel were being educated at the society's expense to become lawyers and such?
does anyone know if they were required to agree to a certain number of years of legal service for them in exchange for this?
i'm also curious as to whether they used only brothers.

Socialization of JW Kids
by Mysterious inthrough the course of my university studies in social sciences there seems to be a repeated emphasis on early socialization shaping personality and having a drastic effect on the long term life of kids.
studies of extreme neglect are often the only ones cited, such as children locked in a closet for the early years of their lives with no human contact.
it's lead me to wonder about the long term effects of jw socialization on youths that are raised in the organization.

Encouraged to read old light?
by Mysterious ini remember my mother espousing the value in all the old publications and wanting me to read them when i was young.
as well as directives to place remaining copies of "older" books (about 10 years out of date) in the door to door work.
are they naive to the fact that the material is so outdated or do they just see the past in rose colored still new light glasses?.
