(And who might this be?) You shall not steal. Do not associate with people who do bad things. 9 You shall not commit perjury. (lie or bear false witness) Honor the gods. There is only ONE GOD 10 You shall not covet. (be envious, jealous, long for anything that belong to others) Have regard for your parents. God's commandments have been there for a very long time. Any similar commandment of men would have come from God. Man could not think of it himself.

Let us try to do nice things for people and set an example.
At least we could try.
Hibiscus - If we ALL strive to live like this then why the need to follow the 10 commandments??? Weren't these done away with thru the sacrifice of Christ anyway?

Buddha is a false god.
Generally Buddhism does not believe in a personal God or a divine being, it does not have worship, praying to, or praising of a divine being (although some sects do.) It offers no form of redemption, forgiveness, no heavenly hope, or a final judgment to those practicing its system.

Question: In the Ten Commandments where it says "Thou shalt not kill" what does it mean? Like you shouldn't kill at all? Or can you defend yourself? Even if you don't kill.
Answer: ANYONE who threatens my life or the life of my loved one in front of me will get what they have coming!!!

Funky
Buddhism is a moral philosophy, an ethical way to live for the here and now of this world to gain the ultimate state.
It has more in common with humanism and atheism than its original religion Hinduism it separated from.
But Buddhism is not atheism just because they don’t believe in a personal God.
It is more like pantheism, there is a impersonal force the void which is the ultimate.

Sweet tee:
That is indeed a normal reflex action for human beings....but you would end up in jail even though you may be in the right.

Be brave? Most times people hate to admit their wrong doings. Would you admit yours?

Oh well, I guess that's a start.
Trust good character more than promises. (What kind of character)
Good character. It says it right there. It means to judge people on how they tend to behave rather than on how they claim they will behave.
Learn to obey before you command.
(Obey who?Whoever's in command. I think the point is that you can't be a good leader unless you have first been a good follower.
Make reason your supreme commander.
(And who might this be?)
Reason. It means the process of reason, rather than a person with that name.
Honor the gods.
There is only ONE GOD
Nonsense. There are thousands of gods. Ask the Hindus. Unlike the commandments of Moses, Solon doesn't advocating massacring those who worship a different god to him.
God's commandments have been there for a very long time. Any similar commandment of men would have come from God. Man could not think of it himself.
Think of what? There's nothing particularly original or clever about the (Exodus 20) Ten Commandments. The first four are how to worship YHWH. Those are not suitable laws for modern people who don't believe in or care about your god. Respect for parents and prohibitions against murder, theft, adultery and perjury are found among law codes more ancient than the Jewish one. The idea that "covetousness" could be wrong is quite absurd.
The Ten Commandments really aren't very interesting or special. Nobody would give them a second thought if they appeared anywhere other than the bible. The Wiccan Creed is far more noble: An it harm none, do as thou wilt.
