Rod,
I think we are on the same wave length in many areas. Good and bad are illusions of the mind caused by our perspectives. An interview of Hilter, Pol Pot, and little Johnny on the subject of good and bad makes perspectives stand out.

Zen:
Perchance your own reading comprehension needs attending to, Mr. Pot?
I was with ya right up the point where you started euthanazing the retarded
Perhaps you could elaborate on what you meant by "put them down"?
Affectionately,
Mr. Kettle.
Zen:Perchance your own reading comprehension needs attending to, Mr. Pot?no where in there did I meantion euthanizing the retarded.... the statement regarding putting "some" down, had nothing to do with them...but to those who are a danger to society... but you picked out the retarded and ignored all the others mentioned.... and I did not say put all of the rest down either, but put that as a possibility in the overall context of dealing with those who are not able to be made well...who pose a threat to the rest...etc... there was never any implied necessity in putting anyone down.I was with ya right up the point where you started euthanazing the retardedPerhaps you could elaborate on what you meant by "put them down"?
but the main focus was that whatever we do it need not be done with malice, revenge or hatred.
Perhaps it's all just an inevitable unintended misunderstanding. No point in gettin' our knickers in a knot. LOL
Anybody want to extend an olive branch here?

I did - you ignored it!
Trevor,
Sorry, I wasn't implying you.
I was referring to the little "pot and kettle" scenario going on between Little Toe and Zen.
Definition of sibling rivalry: "When two onions can't get along."
Are we having fun yet?
Rod P.
LittleToe: Accountable to what/who/whom?
Would there be any accountability to anyone or anything, including ourselves, if there was no free will?
If every individual human act is predestined then there is no way an individual can "harm" any human. Under that premise, eradication of the human race is the most desirable outcome and eradication of individual humans is the least undesirable outcome from the perspective of anything not human.
Such inevitability would beg the question, "Why try?" Life becomes an exercise in futility.
Sorry Rod, I have no freewill, so on this occasion I must rise to the bait and slate Zen for his politically incorrect stance on euthanazing the disadvantaged. But hey, at least he doesn't want them to hurt or be hated, in the process, eh? At least it'll all be done in an emotionally detached and medically pain-free manner, huh? Maybe we can start extending that to the over 70's, too, as a way of decreasing the burden on Social Welfare programs.
"Logansrun", here we come...
OldSoul:That would be the basis of my contention with EW.
Hyper-Calvinism would ultimately boil down to man not being responsibility at all.
Do you decide or choose how far you will let someone have a say over you BECAUSE of who you are- your very nature, your essence, your being? In other words, do you choose what you choose because you are what you are? Is your genetic makeup, your biological makeup, your personality what makes you choose to accept more or less in reaction to someone else telling you what you can do or not do? I haven't read through the entire thread, but I got this far and wanted to comment.
To me, freedom is just what you are determined to fight against. The realization that you do what you do because you are what you are and recognizing that you have to be you is liberating rather than constraining unless you want to be something or someone else. That is definitely something you aren't free to chose and if that's your goal you'll never have freedom.
