when my son got old enough to start getting serious about girls, I gave him a list of what he was to look for in the girl he would marry.

    1. Don't marry a stupid person who will embarrass you every time she opens her mouth

    2. Don't marry someone who does not share your love of animals

    3. do not marry someone who does not appreciate what your interests are. She does not have to share them, just appreciate them (music, for example)

4.Do not marry someone who will not let me make the wedding dress.

Race was not on the list. There should have been something about her mother on the list, though.

When he proposed, he told her that his mother was making the wedding dress, and I did.

Thank you for posting all of that! I for one really appreciated it! I didn't know whether to laugh or get mad!

I saw a lot of rascism in the congregations in the 60's and 70's. I was the only one in our family that didn't stop the kids from associating with the Black witnesses. We were told that we should not associate with them because it might "Stumble" someone that wasn't "Mature" in the "Truth"..We used to have so much fun together! We always went skating at a "Worldly skating rink with worldly music!!

Imagine my joy when one of the Elder's daughter's married a black witness!

They ended up moving to Australia!

    So much for christian love!

    UnDisfellowshipped, it's ok, I was having a "feeling-sorry-for-self" moment.

    Golden Girl,

When I first read that info, I was like you-didn't know whether to laugh or get angry!

But, isn't it amazing that through the years their attitudes went along with what was acceptable with society at the time. But, later on their attitude was one of superiority, as if they have always been the leaders in the race-relations business, meanwhile putting down Christendom for their past viewpoints, predjudices and stere-types?!!

Now, I must say that I am bi-racial and the fact that they were so accepting of all races (or at least portrayed themselves as such) was a big drawing card for me when I was a pre-teen and beginning to really notice predjudice. To now read some of this stuff sickens me-not so much the attitudes they had, but the fact that they didn't acknowledge they had made mistakes and they didn't apologize for their past policies (at least not that I have read.) It's just "new-light."

Anyways, I loved hearing about your courage to do the right thing in the face of so much racism.

They should therefore take a very realistic view of matters and recognize the added difficulties such a marriage will have to face.

The article in a very one-sided and bigoted way listed only the negative factors in an interracial marriage and then calling it being realistic.

What I have learned about people when the say be realistic is that what they are really saying is be pessimistic. There is nothing more real about a pessimistic point of view than a optimistic one. Just one is negative and the other positive.

From my perspective an interracial marriage though they will have special trials to endure also has one counter-balancing and overriding benefit the article does not speak of. That benefit is a special bond that forms in a interracial marriage because the world in general and their families
will often alienate themselves from the couple. They then have only each other to rely upon and cling to. They have been forced to forsake all others .This is something of course that only works when the couple really are in love.

Another similar benefit is that this kind of match seems more special and will probably be more fun and stimulating to the couple attempting to expose one another to each's cultures.

Clearly it is true that people only see what they want to see. The WTS has chosen to see only negativity in interracial marriages. Their hypocrisy in pretending they are colorblind is truly disgusting.

"Is this marriage the best possible solution to their problem and reason for getting married"

Hmmm let me see.....I'd say 95% of the JWs who marry under the age of...lets say 20-25, is for sex only. So marriage is not the best solution for their problem. Having sex and getting reproved would be the best solution.

Not only does the WTS support prejudice in condemming everyone but JWs now they're biggots! AMAZING!

Btw... I say that because of what Mouthy said on page 1. People can marry whoever they want, but it's the kids who WILL catch hell. Like the article said,

Christians cannot change prevailing human customs, prejudices and laws
but must put up with them. They should therefore take a very realistic
view of matters and recognize the added difficulties such a marriage will
have to face. In many parts of the earth there is still much racial
discrimination... children born of such a marriage most likely will face
similar added obstacles as soon as they are old enough to mingle with
      other children.

    Someone stated

I notice no Scriptures are cited

Actually, gumby didn't post the whole article. Here's the whole thing from wt 7/15/60:

Is it wrong for a white person and a colored one to marry if they truly love each other? Does the Bible give any counsel in this regard?W. M., U.S.A.

Gods Word does not forbid marriage between the races. On the contrary, it shows that all races are related in that they all came from one man originally. (Acts 17:26) No one race is esteemed better in Gods sight than another. As the apostle Peter expressed it: "God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him."Acts 10:34, 35.

What Gods Word does command is that dedicated Christians should marry "only in the Lord." Should it happen that one or the other had been married before, it would be necessary that they be Scripturally free; either in that the mate is deceased or has been legally divorced because of adultery.1 Cor. 7:39.

Obviously, those who marry seek happiness. And the Scriptures indicate that a marriage or wedding should be a very happy occasion. The countless happily married couples give evidence that marriage can bring deep satisfactions, contentment and much joy. However, it also follows that due to human imperfection marriage does bring with it a certain amount of "tribulation in their flesh," as the apostle Paul terms it.1 Cor. 7:28.

It is quite likely that those who marry across racial lines will have more of this tribulation than will others. Christians cannot change prevailing human customs, prejudices and laws but must put up with them. They should therefore take a very realistic view of matters and recognize the added difficulties such a marriage will have to face. In many parts of the earth there is still much racial discrimination, and entering such a marriage may result in restricting the Christians opportunities for preaching the good news of Gods kingdom. Also, children born of such a marriage most likely will face similar added obstacles as soon as they are old enough to mingle with other children.

Then again, the law in certain lands and states forbids interracial marriage. Since Christians must recognize Caesars right to regulate marriage, Christians residing in such states or lands and contemplating interracial marriage would have to move to a land or state where such marriages are legal, and it would be inadvisable for them to return to their own land or state or to go to any others having such laws.

In view of these factors, those who contemplate such a marriage will do well to consider the step seriously. Is it truly love or chiefly physical attraction? Would it be in the best interests of both? Is this marriage the best possible solution to their problem or reason for wanting to marry? Before marriage the love between two persons may seem sufficiently strong, but is it strong enough to endure the added obstacles such a marriage brings with it? If two persons of different races decide to take such a step, no one should criticize them. The really important factors, it may not be forgotten, are those plainly stated in the Scriptures.

"Gumby didn't post the whole article"

So what is your point NotBlind? Did I hide something the article explained? Was there another side to the story I left out? If you did it to assist this post....thank you. If your implying something....please explain.

    Larc,

You think your pissed at comforter? I'de like to slap his ass right now (though I would'nt) This is what he said, if it was not for worldly peeps, we would not have prejudice. jws aint burned nobody's house down or joined the kkk. jws aint been part of no colored panthers or terrorist groups. we is one big brotherhood in Poland, united states and japan. no other people on earth can make this claim in truth. thank you for time. UnD,

I meant MUTUAL LOVE, TRUE MUTUAL LOVE.

    "Love your spouse as yourself."

If a couple has that kind of love, it doesn't matter one bit what their race, color, nationality, etc is.

If a husband loves his wife as he loves himself, he will do his BEST to support her and to treat her as he wants to be treated.

NOW THAT, is what TRUE LOVE is all about.

    Amen, brutha, Amen.
