The more I think about this, the more I believe this is much ado over nothing. I remember when they cancelled the book study night a few years ago. The letter was read at a CA which was very unusual. The reaction? The loudest appaluse I've heard in YEARS.

If they eliminated the D2D, there would be a standing ovation. Most JWs HATE it.

They make doctrinal changes on a pretty regular basis and no one seems to really care. Their MO is to slip it into a WT study or a QFR then reinforce with CO talks, DC talks, and other WT articles. I just don't see them doing anything doctrinal.

They're constantly making changes, so while I do think the school will have some changes, I think it will be procedural. They want to explain face to face and then issue a BOE letter with the details once everyone has had the "training".

I have a horrible feeling they will be introducing some kind of new procedure whereby inactive ones are automatically disassociated if they fail to report within a certain period.

this. i agree, and if they dont do it at this elders school, they will do it soon. they must do this to stop the bleeding, i dont think there is any way this doesnt happen at some point.

Interesting speculations. All I can comment on is that the last few CO visits the CO was constantly promoting use of electronic media, to direct people to the website to download and read magazines. This was mentioned several times so I am guessing that there is a change in the way the preaching work is done and it involves the less placing of literature.

I totally agree that they are bleeding money with literature placements. I dont think anyone does that little speech at the end "....and if you'd like to make a donation to our worldwide work, I'd gladly accept it" anymore that they were really stressing back in the 90s. How many do you think are really donating for literature at the KH... very few.

Also I would place money on the recent court losses, 28 million is a huge loss. Whatever it is I will be there to take it in.

No, they will not auto-DA inactive ones. They are then assuring they won't come back. They prefer you be inactive but feeling a nagging sense of guilt then by cutting you off not to return.

Here's what I consider their ultimate bottom line: LEGAL. If there is a legal issue, it will now affect how they deal with certain issues. They will change whatever views or policies IF Legal is involved. If there's potential liability for shunning, BINGO, we don't shun. If you don't need 2 witneeses because Legal says so, BINGO, the Old Law has vanished!

Concern for money is important but not because they are worried about their personal welfare. They want money so they can keep doing what they sincerely believe is "God's Work" of saving lives. I would have to believe that their biggest concern is the large number of young people who are thrown out into the world too quickly due to "sins of youth". They aren't going to change the harsh treatment of disfellowshipped people but they are probably going to institute a program of really helping young fornicators, smokers & potheads deal with their problems. Disfellowshipping will be the last resort and reserved for predatory behavior where an individual is using the "brotherhood" for victims.

Back in the 1950's and 1960's they never disfellowshipped for things like necking and petting. If you punish petting with disfellowshipping and a young couple feel they are going to get disfellowshipped for those things they will just say Hell, If I'm going to get disfellowshipped I might as well have sexual intercourse to make it worth while.

If you are a creative person with a strong exploratory urge you're going to get into some kind of trouble. If you throw these creative types out you end up with the squarehead misfits that have a low EQ (emotional quotient) who tend to be antisocial. They become the next elders. Good bye to that.

It used to be that if you shunned someone they would come back for association with friends and family. If you disfellowship too many you just create an exciting community of x-jw peers. Young people would rather be with their friends than family anyhow. The internet also fills that void.

The argument will be since disfellowshipping is the equivalent of stoning you don't want to stone people at the drop of a hat. It will be reserved for really serious cases. There will have to be careful reviews of the actions of a committee. There will have to be guidelines for assisting people who may be bi-polar or severely depressed to avoid suicide. Maybe there will be obligatory meetings where groups of young people can get together and talk about how they are handling their problems. Maybe there will be the equivalent of AA for some who are abusing substances.

Right now you have a lot of parents who struggle with the urge to love and help their disfellowshipped children.

    Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

    That's too funny!

That's the funniest thing I've read since another poster yesterday suggested that the elders would get a chance to "ask questions" at the elders' school.

Look, the Society views "the sheep" with utter contempt. They look upon them as idiots who can't follow simple directions. They view themsleves as glorious ones with the noblest of all possible work, and think they've been given a bunch of slackers, malingerers, and numbskulls to help them accomplish it.

They put on a "show" of deep concern, but they don't care one whit about "helping" anyone. "Helping" doen't get them the power, prestige, control, and money they desire.

"Helping" - yeah, they'll "help" kids get disfellowshipped more quickly by outlawing even more forms of porn.

Sir, well said. So why are YOU still there as an elder?

    Yeah Sir nailed that one.

The last thing the old codgers in Brooklyn are thinking about is actually "helping" troubled youth with proven and effective methods using modern techniques.

Remember their Sparlock motto "LISTEN, OBEY, ....(and be blessed)

d2d is not going anywhere, maybe there could be an adjustment to the way they do d2d but that activity isn't disappearing any time soon - what would they do with over 1,000,000,000 hours being used to waste time? That means there would be extra billion hours for dubs to waste on something else, and we all know they wouldn't increase readership of their trashy mags nor would this extra time encourage more studies with the kids. Initially these activities would increase but that would quickly fizzle out.

Changes to df, well I guess that's a possibility but then what will the guidelines be? You "sin" 3 times before you're out? Oh, Johnny who got df can return the flock sooner - elder will go visit him and invitation back? We can talk to our df families so they can return sooner and contribute more to pedophile fund? Their last elder's book is practically wholly made for the purpose of disfellowshipping so will they revise their practice only 2 years after releasing that gem - that would mean a whole new book should be released at the meeting.

Cause of concern for the money drain is return on cost of publishing and lawsuits so we can expect something addressing this matter with some good and healthy bible counsel for elders to pay closer attention than ever before to their flock.
