By this you will know that the spirit is of God because the whole spirit is in agreement with Jesus Christ that among flesh (mankind) has come out of God is.

I think it means not was but what is.

It means we can believe Christ is among us to do the will of God through us.

Am I wrong to think some people think it means we are to believe Jesus came "in the flesh"?

And will come again in his own flesh?

I believe it means our flesh.

2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
