hey FHN.. sorry to hear you now have new problems complicating things. I looked at the FMLA laws we have.. then did a little research.. it appears California (where I am) is the most progressive. They also list domestic partners.. which I would think Andy 'might' qualify as.. however when I dug and looked at Michican laws for Paid Family Leave..........they specifically list only parents, children, spouse.. I think I found one that added, or persons whose financial or medical care you are primarily responsible for (www.michigan.gov/documents/ARTICLE_40_16500_7.pdf)

She may be right, but I NEVER take HR (Human Resources) word on anything. Is this a union-backed job? Talk to your union steward - unless he/she is an idiot - then go over their head.

    FMLA is state mandated

Thanks Sassy for finding that link for FHN. I should've done that for her as she has a lot on her plate.

Leave it to the Feds to let the states mandate how they want......

yes.. states are the ones in control of how much it does. I see Michigan has legislator on trying to improve their FMLA program... but that will not help FNH much now...

    The Federal FMLA is unpaid.

    That's right Phil.

But the states mandate if you qualify at all???? According to Sassy CA is more liberal than Michigan.

FHN has a fiance and 2 grandkids to care for. That is her family that she is concerned with. If she were in California she'd be covered by FMLA, but in Michigan she's left out to dry.

Thank you everyone. I guess things can't always go my way. Thursday night Megan came and took Mickey and they are evaluating the situation until his out of state caseworker gets here. The 23rd.

We had no warning. No chance to prepare him or do a proper good bye. The only saving grace was that he thought it was an adventure. He is till in Michigan. We only hope they will either return him or allow us to see him and maybe celebrate his birthday with him.

This is very painful. But at least Julian is still here and Andy is handling it better than I am.
