Mrs Kwin and I were ticked off because it got to my father somehow that we were disassociating ourselves. We found out, that an elder in our hall who is dealing with our "case" sees my dad's PO everyday and told him that we had given them a letter. What ever happened to confidentiality?

Anyway, its a meeting night tonight, so Mrs Kwin and I write up a letter basically saying that anything we say or write to them is privledged and confidential information and must not be talked about in any way to others. I go over to the kingdom hall, burst into the meeting and give it to the PO, then go on to ask the PO (somewhat loudly) what he's doing talking about Mrs Kwin's letter to others? Every head in the KH turns back to look at us. He asks to step into the lobby, and he nods at two of the other elders to come with him.

I brought my copy of Pay Attention to Yourselves and to All the Flock with me and showed them the parts about confidentiality. I then told them, that I expect that anything said between us to be confidential, and that if they in any way defame my character or my wife's, then they will be looking at legal action. One of the elders said, "Well, there will be none of that"

So I said, "I also expect there to be no announcements to be made about us"

That's when the PO pipes in, "It was already made, just half and hour ago."

What???? They disfellowshipped me and my wife, without a JC meeting, without giving us an appeal, without even EVER talking to me! What's that scripture where it says you can't judge a man without hearing their testimony? (No really, what is it. I want to know) I guess that one doesn't apply though. When they said that, I said "Well, I guess you guys are going to regret that." And then I left.

I'll be talking to my lawyer tomorrow.

Did they give you reason for the D'fd? Or did you leave before finding out?

Are you two OK? Can I do anything to help you out. I'm serious, what can I do?

    Dams,

It was the Halifax North hall ... The PO is [edit name] and the guy who was in charge of our "JC Kangaroo Court While sticking their thumbs up their asses and not reading their elders manuals" name is [edit name].

told him that we had given them a letter.

Was this a letter of disassociation? If so, then JW procedure allows them to proceed without a JC meeting.

Organized to Do Jehovah's Will page 155:

    DISASSOCIATION

The term "disassociation" applies to the action taken by a person who, although a baptized member of the congregation, deliberately repudiates his Christian standing, rejecting the congregation by his actions or by stating that he no longer wants to be recognized as or known as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Because he is disassociated, his situation before Jehovah is far different from that of an inactive Christian, one who no longer shares in the field ministry. An inactive person may have failed to study God's Word regularly, or because of experiencing personal problems or persecution, he may have lost his zeal for serving Jehovah. The elders as well as other concerned members of the congregation will continue rendering appropriate spiritual assistance to an inactive brother. (Rom. 15:1; 1 Thess. 5:14; Heb. 12:12) However, the person who disassociates himself by repudiating the faith and deliberately abandoning Jehovah's worship is viewed in the same way as one who is disfellowshipped. A brief announcement is made to inform the congregation, stating: "[Name of person] is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses."

    Kwin,

Their increasing arrogance makes me wonder what they are thinking. Do you think the Branch Office is calling the shots because you went public? That doesn't make sense because they are supposed to work though the local boys.

You need a local lawyer, but also a consulting attorney who knows the WT procedure in and out. It is hard to make a case against internal church procedure, but this "church" is incorporated and must work within corporate laws. If they ignored their own policies as well as corporate procedure you may have a case, but it will have to be handled very carefully.

    Keep us informed

They said the reason was because I said in front of two people, over the phone, that I didn't want to be a JW anymore, and because Mrs Kwin said the same to two elders. I can understand them announcing Mrs Kwin, but they didn't even talk to me to verify if I had said that or not. What cowards! That's what they are, cowards!

    I don't know them.

Here's a thought that might make you smile. You are now urban JW legend as "Crazed Apostate" who disturbed a peaceful gathering with wild eyes and a foul mouth. A small blue creature about 3 apples high was spotted peeking around your pant leg. Mrs.Kwin will be remembered as a "sweet girl" who "was led astray" by said "crazed apostate"

    Did it work?

Let me know if I can do anything.

Zeke ... no, it was a letter saying to stay away from my wife. Don't contact her, contact me.

J2L ... I agree 100%. I have a copy of their procedures (pay attention book), and I have a good idea of their workings. The churches in Canada don't have nearly the amount of freedom they have in the US, so I will have a decent case. It's just a matter of finding the right lawyer.
