  Beryl- Sounds like an all round crappy situation. Since you already know your boss isn't a big fan of the Witnesses, could you maybe explain that you are an Ex-W and the issues and uncomfortableness sitting next to this guy are causing you?

  I had a similar situation at work awhile ago. I work at an Indian Casino in a bar, where you'd think you wouldn't run into this issue, but my bar is attatched to a restaurant. The casino hired a bingo bus driver who was a JW (I know ??!!) and since she did not gamble, she would spend her time reading propaganda literature in the restaurant at the table facing my bar and would "witness" to the servers. I on seeing the situiation made it a point to "shout loudly and proudly" that I was an ex-jw to the waitstaff, which led to a lively conversation on JW beliefs and why this crazy bat was trying to give them magazines. Soon the waitstaff was pointing to me in the bar when bingo bat lady would try to give them magazines or preach and explaining they didn't want to take her magazines. She moved tables and quit preaching, problem solved!

  is there anything you have learned from this site about jehovah's witnesses that despite having been one you did not know before?

  for me it was the 1975 issue.

  i had been raised on tales of "brothers and sisters" led astray by their own wishful thinking that the world was going to end in 1975. my family joined in 1980 and bought this retoric lock stock and barrel.

  Is there anything you have learned from this site about Jehovah's Witnesses that despite having been one you did not know before?

  For me it was the 1975 issue. I had been raised on tales of "Brothers and Sisters" led astray by their own wishful thinking that the world was going to end in 1975. My family joined in 1980 and bought this retoric lock stock and barrel. I had been out of the borg for years (borg is another cool thing I have learned on this site) and already had a laundry list of "issues" with their beliefs and behaviors but I had not realized how complicated and pivotal 1975 really was to the JW's. Was it not for those who have posted on this site I would not have known the "Truth" on this matter and would have continued to believe 1975 was no big deal.

  A very profound statment. I definitely agree that the organization was my surrogate parent too. Thank you for sharing your 1975 story also. My family didn't come "in" until 1980 and we were fed the company line regarding 1975, that it was the people who were stumbled's fault and that the society never said specifically 1975 was "the year". That certain people had taken the society too literally and gotten carried away. It wasn't until I found this site that I knew otherwise.

  Thank you startingover, and everyone else who've posted on the 1975 topic. Were it not for you I wouldn't have known the truth on this matter.

  I love halloween! I've dressed up every year since I left. This year I'm thinking of going as one of the two scariest things I can think of either a 80's hair queen or a trekkie nerd. I kind of already resemble the last one, but I'm thinking full on klingon makeup super trek nerd.

  LOL Avishai- Those are some truly scary costume ideas too!

  Having a Bad Day.....

  having a bad day?

  there was a case in one hospital's intensive care ward where patients always died in the same bed, on sunday morning, at about 11 a.m., regardless of their medical condition.

  this puzzled the doctors and some even thought that it had something to do with the supernatural.

  i've been on the atkins diet for several weeks now, and to it's credit i have lost about 20 pounds.

  but*, the diet requires you to limit your carbohydrate intake to only 20 grams a day... and i love carbohydrates.

  i'm off to the boston pizza restaurant to have a woooonder pizza and a tall beer!!!

  Off for my surgery

  well i am just waiting for my ride and then i will be off.

  hope the results are good of the biopsy although i might not find out today.

  and yesterday i bought myself two canes - one sleek brass colored folding cane and the other a standard purple floral number weehoo.

  Foiled conversion attempt!

  someone will be very disappointed tomorrow morning!

  i am home on maternity leave right now, and this has given me the opportunity to meet people in our neighborhood that i might never have come in contact with otherwise.

  a few weeks ago, i started chatting with a mother who was out for a walk with her toddler.

  Your Favorite Colloquialisms?

  thought we could all share a few of our favorites...here's one i'm fond of....

  "chaps my grits" is a southern colloquialism, referring.

  to.....well, i guess you better know what grits is.

  You guys are too funny! I love weird local slang I think because I live in a hotbed of it. The best colloquialisms from around here are:

  Roostin in the pits - throwing rooster tails behind your large truck as you drink heavily in a sand pit. It's a favorite local pastime.

  Banung - Means doesn't work in Ojibwe, in the local slang it is used in reference to males implying an important part of their anatomy doesn't work.

  Swampy - Overpoweringly odiferous city slicker who has just returned from a week long camping vacation without bathing once despite the copious amount of water in the area. (Minnesota - land of 10,000 lakes, hello!)

  The Worst Thing You Ever Did As A Jehovah's Witness

  what's the worst thing you did as a jw?.......for me, it was to help other persons come to love the "organization".

  1. Not talking to very good friends in high school who were DA-ed out of fear.

  2. Conducting a bible study with 1/2 my 3rd/4th grade class out of the Bible Story book. (Their parents put an end to it thank god!)

  3. Telling my entire kindergarten class there was no Santa Claus, explaining in detail that Santa was their parents and they were just being lied to by adults. It sparked off a mass crying histeria the teacher could barely contain. I thought I was freeing them from lies.

  4. Casting off my "wordly" bad association friends with no explanation when I was 13 at the request of my mother.
