  JW Admits She Doesn't Want To Think!

  one of my wife's best friends talked to her yesterday about "the truth".

  she wanted to know if they could get together to "talk".

  after some conversation, my wife asked her if she thought all the "prophecies" in the isaiah book seemed reasonable.

  I asked her if her conscience would allow her take hemoglobin. Her answer was "I do not know. I do not make those decisions."

  Isn't that a telling statement; since the Borg loves say that certain matters are left up to an individual's Christian conscience; yet even on those matters, if your conscience steers you wrong, you're in the dog house. They don't even leave a simple thing such as a magazine presentation up to the individual to prepare for themselves; everything is spoon-fed to them. So for a Dub to say that they don't make decisions of conscience, is actually pretty accurate.

  My poor non-JW grandmother!! (long)

  i am so annoyed right now i could just spit.

  first, some background info: my brother's mother-in-law (a jw) seems to feel as though she has some special connection to my gramma because they have both lost their husbands.

  she's a good 10 - 15 years younger than gramma; and, truth be told, gramma doesn't especially like her.

  I mentioned the letter to my gramma this weekend at Thanksgiving, and she didn't object at all. She did say that she was going to mention it to my father to ask him to put a stop to it.

  the regrettable foods site had me splitting my sides; here is a collection of weight watchers recipe cards from 1974. they are as gross, and as hilariously funny.

  the names they came up with for the recipes are astounding.

  My favourite is the time we had the CO and his wife for lunch after field service, and my mum swore in front of them. Granted, it was just after one of the sisters had pulled out of our driveway, was driving down the road and was rearended by someone speeding along our street. My mum let an expletive fly...and, honestly, as outspoken as my mum is, I'm sure that's the only time she truly wished for the ground to open up and swallow her.

  over the last couple of weeks there have been a dozen or so threads about people having a bad day or bad week.

  i feel guilty because i have been quite happy lately.

  i've been making quite a bit more money; i've been getting 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night instead of none; i've made several friends at work.

  SP, good for you; good luck with your choices. I love that poem too; Robert Frost is my mum's favourite poet.

  I'm doing well too; happy about my baby on the way and enjoying the time my son has left as an only child. Hubby is good; work has calmed down; friends are good. It's good to be me.

  Hit Me With Some Snappy Comebacks Puleeeeeeeeze!!

  okay...so i'm invited to a baby shower for my daughter-in-law which will most likely be attended by myriads upon myriads of jw's.

  i won't go into the nasty details...but they've been married four years now and have another little daughter...their wedding was boycotted by most jw's because she was not baptized yet (but grew up a jw)...and my son was.

  so every since the wedding fiasco...they have been pretty much shunned by the jw's...and attend meetings infrequently.

  Before and after meetings: What was the conversational quality like?

  i have been in a number of different congregations over the years, and i have to say that the level of conversation i had with my fellow believers, with a few exceptions, was rather poor.. here are some 'opening' comments.. 1) nice to see you at the meeting.

  - i never understood this.

  can you imagine going to a company meeting and saying to your fellow worker, 'nice to see you at the meeting'?.

  After the initial "hello, how are you? Nice to see you" they often begin looking around to see if they can find someone else to say these three sentences to.

  Isn't that the truth. I remember reliving that same play over and over again with the children of the visiting speaker. I would always get in trouble if I didn't "approach" the visitors to make them feel welcome.

  After a stilted, awkward conversation, I would scan the hall for my best friend and flee as soon as I could without seeming utterly rude.

  And 9 times out of 10, we had the visiting speaker + family for lunch after the meeting.
