Slowly killing them…
by silentbuddha inso yesterday a family friend who was never age overs witness give me a phone call.
he says that he is quite upset with me and wants to give me a chance to explain why i'm treating my father so portly.
mind you i have not seen my father or mother in about 3 years and they refused to talk to me except for the occaisional crazy letter that my mother will send.. anyway my the family friend stated that he spoke to my mother and brother and they both told him that because i choose to leave the religion and in turn separate myself from the family it has caused my 80 something year old father a tremendous amount of stress and she is becoming sick and they're not sure how much longer he will be with us.. shoot felipe nothing they say really bothers me much anymore but the fact that i'm being accused of slowly killing my father because i've decided to make a decision that's better from my own family is actually quite frustrating to me.. give you hours after having of the conversation with our family friend i get a call from my older brother who then begins to be raped me and tells me that i should accept responsibility for the fact that i am the cause of our ejean father's poor health and that leaving jehovah causes problems not only for me but for those who love me.

Religion is just like Advertising!
by stuckinarut2 ina thought occurred to me today, that religion is just like a clever marketer or advertiser.
first , a "problem" is created, then the advertiser offers the "solution"!.
religion does the same!

Pro-Blood Transfusion Directives for the Ex-JW
by Cimarrona inhey everyone, i have a question... all of my family members are jehovah's witnesses, save my son and me.
if something were to happen to me and i lost consciousness, my parents would be the best of kin called on to make medical decisions.
how do i ensure that if a transfusion is needed, hospital/doctors are clear that i do indeed want a transfusion and that my parents cannot override that decision?

Remember the First "Young People Ask..." VHS?
by Cimarrona indo y'all remember the young people ask tape that came out in the late 90s about "bad association"?
i was a fairly small child with teenage siblings and watched it often (with family and alone cause i thought it was the inside scoop on older kids).
that was back when worldly was still very much so a part of dubspeak (i think they started encouraging people to stop saying it in the mid to late 2000s).

Naming Infinity: A True Story of Religious Mysticism and Mathematical Creativity
by OrphanCrow induring the time that the silver sword, the jw bible, was being examined in the russian courts as to whether or not it was going to be recognized as a "real bible" or be declared extremist (which it was), i did some research for historical context, trying to get a better understanding of the social environment that would be evaluating the jw bible.. the most crucial piece of information that i was interested in expanding and tracking down was how the jws' use of 'the divine name' in the bible would be perceived in russian culture.. i started from the premise that the act of naming denoted ownership.
and i was interested in how that act would be interpreted against the backdrop of orthodoxy in russia, given that russian orthodoxy has had its own historical and controversial schisms over the rituals and interpretations of "the divine".
even though we live in the 21st century and this drama is played out in front of us, how it is scripted is based on centuries of belief and ritual that are not present in the birthplace of the jworg.. i also thought that the org's habit of claiming divine favor based on "knowing" god's name would not play out well against the history and inherent religious biases that run deep within russian culture and so i wanted to know how the act of naming god might be viewed in today's culture.. anyways.
