The new personality
by longgone ini've been thinking about the changes we make within ourselves after leaving the wts cult.
i'm not referring to how we spend our time now that we actually have some, but who we have become, or working to be?.
the gb carries on and on about "stripping off the old personality and putting on the new one.

Hi everyone! I've been thinking about the changes we make within ourselves after leaving the WTS cult. I'm not referring to how we spend our time now that we actually have some, but who we have become, or working to be?
The GB carries on and on about "stripping off the old personality and putting on the new one." I personally think what they are really saying, is to become clones of their ideas of who they, the GB want us to be!
Even give up or even lose our own identity and in the case of some born-in like myself, sad to say we may not even fully formed our own. My question is for example, do you think are you more creative now, or have greater balance, losing that black and white thinking. Perhaps more adventurous, or decisive? Who are you becoming, now that you can decide for yourself?
Side note, I apologise for grammar errors, I'm working on becoming a grammar nerd myself. π

Birthday Party
by OnTheWayOut ini have posted less and less personal threads because less and less jw-related activity has happened in my life.
my jw mother called me on friday and asked me if i could do something on saturday.
i was sure my wife would ask me if anyone asked about her, and what i said.

A sad incident here. I remember some years ago a family with two little boys had a small party for all the little kids in the congregation. It was very sweet and the family gave gifts to all the children.
At the next meeting a sister carrying her little boy maybe only three years old, chuckled and told me that afterward he had said to her, " Nobody even got their head chopped off!"
It's a really sick religion that has preschoolers thinking things like that. Where would he get such a distorted idea? Hmm, that would be while sitting on his mother's lap, reading My Book of Bible Stories! Full color illustrations no less.
Very sad. This is why we throw out most of that crazy cult literature when we see it for what it is. π

Which Watchtower publications did you keep?
by Schnufti ini'm currently cleaning up our bookcase and need to decide what goes into the trash.
i'll keep the watchtower books that are not available online anymore (e.g.
the brown "reasoning" book).

None, zero, zip.
Followed by every item of clothing that I ever wore to the meeting.
Oh, correction. I saved one skirt and one dress, I had just bought. But, before long I couldn't take seeing them in my closet, they just reminded me of being at the KH, so they went out too. Good riddance!

Received my first letter since leaving
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu intoday, i received a paper letter in my mail.
since i left at the second half of 2016, i never received something like this.
it is a one and a half page hand written letter that is written by an elder pioneer (i guess he needed some easy way to get his time in).. it is not written in english, so i will translate it:.

My take on this is as above. He was totaling up his hours for the month or year and needed the time. This may explain why it was handwritten as well. That takes awhile.
A text would take next to no time as there would be no lengthy preaching.
A phone call? Well that easy, you may not answer, and if you did you may not listen to his lengthy speil. No time to speak of for his reportβ. Sidenote - It was a waste of paper and is added to a landfill. π

Quick answer: Way too much!
This is something that really gets to me, all the way back to my childhood. Twenty minutes each way, three times a week. Month after month. Year after year. Wow. Plus the wear on the vehicle. That money could have gone toward food and clothes which we were already short of. π
Then for me as an adult it was cut back to about fifteen minutes, but that went on for decades! At even a nickel for every mile, it would still add up, though I'm not doing the math.
As for time wasted, you can't put a dollar figure on that. No wonder so many jws are broke. Sheesh!

I'm happy to hear you had a nice evening! Isn't it great to realize that the anxiety and pressure the JW religion put on us is in the past. Every day away from them just gets better and better.

I really appreciate your kind words! They help me see there is some good in the situation after all. He is much safer this way than walking around door to door, and will chat happily with whoever he's with and enjoy that. I'll do as suggested and commend him for his efforts to show my respect for him. I love him dearly, and he has many friends and family members who do as well. I'm lucky to have such a man as my father. Thank you for your support. π

I talk with him by phone, he lives a thousand of miles away with my JW sister. (They don't know I have faded.)
I just asked what he's doing tomorrow and that's what he said, then I asked how he feels about it. He says he doesn't mind he doesn't have to go up to people, just talks with them if they come over and want to.
I'm glad he's ok with it, he thinks he's doing something good and important. Life saving work, you know. π
He has no idea what's really going on with the organization. I feel bad about that of course. I don't like that they have convinced him that sitting out in the hot sun for no reason is time well spent when he could be out fishing or something fun which I'm sure he would prefer. I just needed to vent a little. Thanks for listening.
