I think the difference is the witnesses don't care. The adults, at least, feel self righteous when they miss normal things. It's the kids who are hurt when they have to miss things like birthdays.

Hubby's going to the big meeting instead of celebrating our anniversary

You were way harsh, losing it! You didn't know the background (i.e., he changed the rules 6 yrs into the marriage), and yet ripped her a new one. I think your reasoning is off as well. He hurt her feelings, she had a knee jerk reaction, vented. When they worked out the situation, she posted how happy she was, basically letting everyone know he did the right thing, and you still criticize.
Perhaps your own troubles are clouding your outlook? I hope the craziness ends in your life soon. In the meantime, have a glass of wine, take a deep breath and relax.
Kariott, enjoy your weekend! Glad you used your head with your hubby. If it makes you feel any better, my husband has not celebrated but one or two anniversaries in 33 years,and it was because there was something he wanted to do, and even ruined the surprise party our kids tried to throw for our 30th. Sometimes it hurts, but I look at the bigger picture. He's a good provider, we have 4 amazing kids, he helps out my sister & Mom financially when they need it, he's still very active in the bedroom. I have a great life. Sometimes we just have to take a step back after the initial hurt. hope the weekend is everything you want it to be.

They actually said that people's spiritual health & relationship with God depended on the gb? That makes me feel ill. Do you think they even know what the Scriptures say? When was the last time you think any of the gb even opened a Bible & read it?
Are they crazy, or egomaniacs? Or does their arrogance simply have no boundaries? I can't believe people aren't running from the kingdom halls screaming with disbelief

Lying to children

zac asked me if the tooth fairy is real.

jwfacts, a couple dollars under his pillow will be more than enough.
Glad you decided to let him enjoy the tooth fairy for now. Even as a jw, I indulged my kids in the Tooth Fairy story, and not one of them turned out any the worse for it. No apparent psychological damage was done, and they all still confide in me, so I guess they still trust me. Enjoy these times with him, they truly do grow too fast!!

Please re-think sending it to her work mates. If you feel you absolutely have to, please check with an attorney first to make sure there would be no legal recourse for her to take.
If you ever run into her again, why not go up to her and say hello, I miss you, we all love you. If she ignores you, you could loudly proclaim that you're sorry, you forgot the jw's won't talk to anyone who left their religion, even if it's their own father.

Special Pioneer anyone?
by Dis-Member ina recent conversation with a special pioneer... she went to pioneered in tanzania to serve where the need was greater.. spent years out there living in a decrepit mud hut with no electricity or running water.
despite the occasional great party with locals and the beach drummers she had the most ghastly time.
she said the brothers in the congregation were only interested in her because she was european and they thought that meant she had loads of money.
