YOU are bound to be like God, KNOWING good and bad.
by nicolaou inlet's assume god decides what is good and bad.
does he (a) decide what is good because it is obviously good or (b) is it good simply because he says so?.
if (a) god has no choice in what is good.

What were Jesus's 'Miracles' supposed to prove?
by nicolaou inthe healings, feeding the five thousand, walking on water, resurrecting the dead.
none of it happened of course but let's take the bible literally and say that it did.. so?.
didn't magic practicing priests perform 'miracles' in a contest with aaron?

Are we victims of abuse? Should we even think of ourselves that way?
by nicolaou inabuse is such a serious word and i'd hate to use it lightly so if anyone reading this has suffered physical or sexual abuse please know that i absolutely do not equate religious abuse with your suffering.
that being said, many of us were lied to and manipulated for decades.
this cultic 'abuse' has borne fruit in shattered relationships, broken families and estranged children.

Do you meditate?
by nicolaou ini don't have any particular method or system but i'm often happy in my own company.
i value periods of solitude when i can just drift off and follow my own thoughts.. maybe it's not much more than daydreaming but a glass of scotch and some tunes can sometimes light up a memory or bring a hazy idea into focus.
peace and quiet are my luxuries, what about you guys?.

I'm still on my JWN holidays but had to pop back to share this experience.
by nicolaou ini'm a postman with the royal mail and was assigned to train a new starter yesterday.
my line manager introduces me to 'dave', within seconds my jw radar was on maximum!
in his mid to late 30's, politely spoken and with that haircut - i just knew it.. the post he'd applied for was saturdays only, he said he did a lot of volunteer work.

Fading is never 100% successful is it?
by nicolaou inmum phoned last night to see how we all are.
after fifteen years away from meetings and my old jw life you'd think my fade could be called 'successful' and for the most part it is.
.. my resentment at being lied to and having wasted over thirty years of my life has left me like a glass of water full to the brim, it only takes a tap to make a mess.

Just found out that my Mum is taking my 3 year old nephew to meetings!
by nicolaou into be precise, he is my brothers nephew but that makes no difference really.
mum is 71 and a true, hardcore jw.
she's a good mum but has a real blind spot where her faith is concerned.. i know her.

Do you think JWN members would be surprised if they got to know you in real life?
by nicolaou ini don't think you'd recognise me much at all.
i'm a royal mail postman, i love my job for the early starts and midday finish, the outdoors and the exercise.. i get on with people but i'm quite insular and don't enjoy crowds.
i'm happiest when i've fired up the charcoal and i'm making souvlaki or adana kebabs for my family and a few close friends.

John Kerry brands ISIS as Apostates.
by nicolaou inspeaking in rome two days ago kerry said;.
“daesh is in fact nothing more than a mixture of killers, of kidnappers, of criminals, of thugs, of adventurers, of smugglers and thieves,” he declared using the arabic acronym for the isis group.. “and they are also above all apostates, people who have hijacked a great religion and lie about its real meaning and lie about its purpose and deceive people in order to fight for their purposes.”.
source.. it seems like religious folk, irrespective of denomination, can only ever conceive of apostasy as a negative thing.

Is the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses really an inferior form of Christianity?
by nicolaou inseems to be quite a few posters recently pulling down the beliefs of jw's as not biblical or truly christian.
maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, i really don't care.. in some important ways though mainstream christians often behave better than jehovah's witnesses; most don't practice shunning or impose lethal medical prohibitions on their members.
many are far more tolerant of the lgbt community and a few even make the awkward attempt to square the fact of evolution with their faith.. please note that i'm saying some, not all.. so i suppose it's fair to say that differing forms of christianity can be better or worse for individuals, families and the wider community.
