NEVER MEET ALONE WITH A SISTER!!!
by minimus indo you know why the society says this?
regardless of whether the meeting is for the purpose of shepherding, sharing bible advice,or simply giving encouragement, "she could develop romantic feelings for the elder.it is possible for an elder to develop improper feelings for a sister he is comforting or counseling.
it is especially important never to meet with a sister alone when the sister being assisted has been a victim of abuse, suffers from depression,or for any other reason is in a delicate emotional state.a woman in such an emotional may be more vulnerable and may be prone to develop improper feelings toward an elder meeting with her.

Yeah, sure, alrighty then. I am in an emotional state and I am going to jump the bones of an elder.

IBD, first of all you will be missed. I think for the most part the flame wars have been in the very least slowed down, they don't do anybody any good especially those who are still trying to heal. If you have achieved your goals then that is the main thing. Keep checking back time to time and let us know that all is well with you. Keep looking forward "beyond the Borg" I wish you all the best in life.

Hello Capp,
Everyone is welcome here. I am an xjw and found this to be a wonderful place to come and heal. There is much valuable information here as well as links to some other sites, however unless your friends are ready to look for the truth about the jw's you may have an uphill battle ahead of you. Gotta love ya for trying though. Maybe you will gain some insight here anyways, you never know when it may help.

JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES CAN'T GO TO THE RACES!
by minimus inthe wt.
of august 15, 2002 asks:"the violent and deadly gladatorial events of the roman empire have been compared to what modern spectator sports?
a recent exibit in the colosseum in rome, italy, suggested modern parallels by including video clips of bullfighting, professional boxing, auto and motorcycle races, and spectator fights at other modern sports events.early christians took to heart that jehovah does not love violence or violent ones, and neither should christians today.

I guess they are spending too much time with sports and not enought time at the meetings, door to door, personal study etc. Have to make their time cut-back somewhere.

Are You Influenced By Looks?
by jack2 inon friday night i watched a report by abc tv's john stossel (in the normal 20/20 time slot) that dealt with how humans are influenced by looks.
it was a re-broadcast, and even though this was the second time i've seen it it was still fascinating.
to demonstrate whether we are influenced by appearance, several scenarios were set up, involving people considered attractive and those considered more 'plain'.

As a childhood "ugly duckling" a grew up with low self esteem. My first marraige didn't help that situation either (tons if emotional abuse) When I got myself out of that situation I was finally able to assess the person that I was, and I learned to like me! Not in a selfish way but in a way that allows me to know that life is good. If your self worth is low others usually see you that way too. Because of the ugly duckling childhood I have empathy for people that I may not have learned otherwise, so I feel that I am not influenced by looks, the inner person is much more important.
