New donation arrangement in action locally
by respectful_observer inrecently they announced at my hall that a large donation had been made to the local congregation-- nearly $100,000.
they then proposed a resolution that we continue our new(ish) practice of only keeping enough money on hand locally for monthly expenses, and send the entire amount of this large donation to the watchtower society.
aside from the fact that our congregation has already sent well over a half-million dollars to the wt in the last 12 months, i don't understand the motive of the person who made the donation.

College Degree Required
by respectful_observer ini don't anticipate seeing this article, or its supporting data, referenced in any wt publications anytime soon.... ....................................... http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/20/business/college-degree-required-by-increasing-number-of-companies.html?hpw&_r=0.
a few excerpts:.
the college degree is becoming the new high school diploma: the new minimum requirement, albeit an expensive one, for getting even the lowest-level job.. like other employers across the country, the firm hires only people with a bachelors degree, even for jobs that do not require college-level skills.

Can't reconcile the JW concept of "temptation"
by respectful_observer inwhen told recently of someone in the congregation who had "given in to temptation", the person relating the incident said: "satan waited until just the right moment to tempt br.
weak.
i began thinking about the correlation between temptation, free will, and what jws teach about wicked spirit creatures' abilities (or lack thereof).. jws teach that wicked spirit forces can affect the material world-- move objects, speak in audible voice, create visions, possess living creatures (humans included); yet they also teach that they cannot read or manipulate our thoughts.

Wow...not even sure this qualifies as a "fade"
by respectful_observer ini'm posting this both as an anecdote and also to see if, by chance, this person reads this site.
(if you do, it'd be great to catch up since you now live fairly close to me!).
i've got a friend who until very recently was actively serving as an elder in hall close to bethel, and on a body heavy with bethelites.

New WT Video being filmed at DC
by respectful_observer inthere was a full bethel video production crew at the dc held in amherst, ma this past weekend.
large set lighting was set up inside the main entrance and the video crew spent much of the day roaming the arena doing shots of the crowd, singing, talks, etc.
there were several staged scenesfriends associating outside together, a sister dropping a contribution in the box, and a few others.

Funny encounter at work
by respectful_observer ini just had a meeting with a client and we both paused to watch a group outside of the conference room present a cake to a group of colleagues.
i made the comment that it seemed to be a pretty frequent event in their offices.
his response: "yeah, it happens all the time here, but not in our group.
