I am so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a beloved family member. I had a dog for 16 years that I adored. It took me about 10 years to deal with it before I started to feel better. I had a cat for 15 years that passed away a couple of years back. He was amazing. I loved these family members dearly. I have a puppy now, and she's delightful. Somehow you get through it. How lucky we are that they have been in our lives.

Thoroughly enjoyed both videos! Thanks for sharing. One of the things I love about JWN is that there are some pretty darn good things shared here that I might not otherwise read or see.

Miss Fit - I do not agree with those who use words like must, needs, should, etc. As far as your situation goes, as a victim only you are in the best place to determine what you are comfortable with and what will be good for you in dealing with what happened to you. Whatever course of action (or inaction) you decide to take deserves our full support. Sending you only the very best wishes and healing thoughts.

Funny but kind of sad story
by troubled mind inmy youngest son (26yrs old) told me the other day that his barber told him a funny story .. it seems the barber use to be the janitor at the local grade school ,and one day he came into the office and noticed this little red headed boy sitting in there .
now the man said this was a busy day for the little kids ,holiday parties going on in the class rooms so he was curious as to why this little guy was just sitting in the office ...so the janitor asked the secretary what was up with that ?
.....then he said the little red headed kid speaks up loudly ,"i hate being a witness !!

Wow. Thank you for sharing this story with us!! Good for your son for being honest and speaking up! Growing up, I don't remember ever saying any such thing out loud personally, but I know the sentiment was there. I hated missing out on all the celebrations, presents and fun.
Growing up, witnesses would repeat again and again how we don't need a holiday or birthday to give or get presents. In my entire childhood, we only had ONE time when we got presents. We got one present each. It was the most thrilling moment of my life up to that point. I was 11 years old. ONCE. ONE present. THAT'S IT. The other 18 years, we were ignored, and forbidden to take part in any fun. I had a crap childhood and so much of that is the fault of the Watchtower Corp.

OTWO,
Thanks for this update on this lovely family. I remember the various threads you've posted on them. Your detailed experience going and being amonst them was so well told I felt uncomfortable reading it -- almost like I was there! What a nutty group. But their idiosyncracies are so similar to other families and situations all of us on here at JWN know about in our own lives.
You mentioned the 50 year old virgin. I know of two examples that are kind of similar. A family friend pioineered her entire adult life (and still pioneers). Such a wonderful and lovely person. Very pretty woman. Amazing personality. Very caring. Not at all like any of the horror stories we hear about on here. So very sincere and kind in every way. She has devoted every second of every day to the Corporation. She believes with all her heart. She really is a beautiful person inside and out. She did come close to marrying twice in her life. Finally, in her early 60s she met an elder from another congregation who had lost his wife to cancer. They fell in love and are very happy. She was still a virgin when she married. They've been married a few years now. He is a very handsome fellow and she's still as attractive as always.
Another example...a close family member of mine. In her mid- 70s. Life-long servant of the Corporation and pioneer. ULTRA ZEALOUS UBER DUB. Never married. 100% virgin. Attractive. She doesn't hesitate to say she's a virgin. She seems very proud of it. She brings it up -- no one else does. "No man has ever touched me in any way. Ever. I'm still as much of a virgin as I was the day I was born." She does sometimes tell funny stories when she has to see a new doctor at Kaiser and their reaction to a woman in her mid-70s being a virgin still...Priceless. Especially when they have had to do an exam. A couple of docs have, in response to her virginity being intact, asked about any female partners which has made her literally irate in their offices. She's HUGELY homophobic.
Sorry if this has started to veer off topic.

Posting smutty comments
by Simon init seems hardly a day can go by now without someone making a smutty comment and i really don't get it.. there is no need to interject talk of masturbation, sluts, gay sex or toys into every topic.
what are we, teenagers?.
please think twice before posting such comments.
-
laverite
I think some people may try to throw in references to 'gay sex' to be extra shocking or to get more attention. I appreciate that Simon considers it all the same in that what is inappropriate to discuss applies to all forms of smut talk. I like that this forum is not discriminatory. I have always felt comfortable here.

My 8 year old daughter tells me she is an atheist...???
by sosoconfused inso since we have not been to a meeting in 6 months or so, i decided to ask my daughter (on the way home from cheerleading practice - yeah i can't believe i am letting her engage in such a worldly activity lol) if she misses going to the kingdom hall.
she says sometimes because she can't see her friend - but she has made new friends so it doesn't bother her too much.
so i ask her, "well, what about learning about jehovah?

Lots of wonderful feedback on this thread for Soso. Always try to be calm and just don't freak out. This will keep your child talking to you. It is so important that she feels free to tell you what she's really thinking rather than what she thinks you want to hear from her (as others have pointed out!!!). Soooo important. Try to keep her doing that by keeping the lines of communication open by not scaring her away. Let her know how much you appreciate her sharing her thoughts and feelings with you. It's a wonderful thing that she trusts you so much.
