Going Back for the Right Reasons
by startingover13 ini'm new to this site, but i have been following the topics for some time.
initially, it was during a deep search into the history of jehovah's witnesses, and yes, "apostate" sites.
i was born into the organization in 1989. my father was always more inclined to the organization than my mother, and soon after she was df'ed.

Just found out my friend's son is dating a witness.
by TweetieBird inhe actually is going to become a witness for this girl.
her mom is disfellowshipped, trying to get reinstated.
i found out from a non-witness friend of mine that my friend's son has already bought a ring for this girl and is planning on becoming a witness for her.

Of course, beyond the rush of the baptism, msny who hsve spoken this way, simply don't last the distance.
I can attest to this. I've seen members of my own family as well as other people that I know lead a life of drugs, drinking, and getting into trouble find God and "turn their life around" only for it to last less than a year at best.

How Jehovah's Witnesses benefit those humble enough to study the Bible with them.
by Stand for Pure Worship inexcellent material can be found within the reasoning book, page 328, para.2, 3. occasionally, i see posters make presumptuous comments like, "all you need is the bible", or, "i'm born-again, so there's no need for spiritual assistance from another christian", or,"i'm saved", or my favorite, "jesus talks to me directly.
" on one hand, i can't be overly critical of such ones because they do attempt to read and understand the bible on their own.
(acts 17:11) not to mention they're generally peaceable folks, just self-misguided when erroneously believing that they can go it alone.

That's right, under angelic direction, Philip sought out this man in need of spiritual assistance and brought him up to speed on The Truth as it was known in its limited scope for that time.
Under angelic direction? I don't recall the Bible saying that. I thought it said that Philip was being directed by the Holy Spirit. Of course, your statement makes sense in light of what the WTS use to teach when it taught that Jehovah was sending His angels to Judge Rutherford in the early days after Russell died. Yeah, maybe that's it.
Thankfully, they were humble enough to accept truth according to the Scriptures and adapt their mindset.
During my six years of studying with the witnesses I realized that they expected me to critically examine my beliefs against the evidence while refusing to do likewise. Which one is more humble?

Comment made by an uber dub aunt
by joe134cd inok i've read similar threads to this before, but i just thought i would share a comment made by an aunt.
my aunts bible student died, and due to the families wishes the funeral service was given in another church.
my aunt with a disgusted look on her face when recalling the events to me said "and you know what, they must of only spent about 5 minutes talking about the person, and the rest of it was about the church".

My Aunt with a disgusted look on her face when recalling the events to me said "and you know what, they must of only spent about 5 minutes talking about the person, and the rest of it was about the church."
"Oh, so that person must've had a kingdom hall funeral then. I hear that they do that," would've been my response.
But seriously, when my grandfather on my mother's side passed away, the pastor went on and on about, "I don't know if he had been saved or not," and then proceeded to tell us what we needed to do to be saved. I was disgusted, I mean this man could've at least asked the family whether or not my grandfather was saved.

Why do so-called believers need my approval or that of any atheist?
by Band on the Run inrecent posts from those who may mistakenly consider themselves "believers" demand a safe haven in this forum.
they don't like associating with atheists or someone like me.
of course, there are hundreds of thousands of sites for christian discussion already set up on the internet.

What does it matter if others don't agree with you? People often cite Cofty, our loveable but demonic atheist. Cofty is not your father. I am not your mother. Why does it bother you so much that we disagree with you?
Um, I could care less what you two think about me of my opinions.
As for your posts, I ignore most of them because they are too long and windy. If I had to describe your posts, they appear to be from someone who is trying to show the board how intelligent she sounds by using a lot of words. I'm not impressed at all. Keep them short and succinct and they may have more of an impact.

Is that like the whole earth being flooded, tec? Contemporary world maps were a lot smaller than what they are today. What did every tribe and nation look like to Nazarene fisherman?
What you imply, if I am correct, is that the 'whole world' was basically the fertile crescent or some small part of it. I held to the belief that the worldwide flood only flooded that part of the world but an interesting question was raised that got me thinking. If indeed only a small part of the world was flooded, then God's convenant with Noah to never flood the 'world' again was broken because we still have floods in small parts of the world. Unless of couse, His convenant only covers that particular part of the world but then it begs the question, was that part of the world flooded again?
Just thinking...

Look, Up in the Air...It's a Bird, it's a Plane...No, It's a JW!!
by Cold Steel infor you ex-jehovahs witnesses...and even you current ones...have you ever contemplated your future existence in paradise earth, should you be fortunate enough to end up there?
during those raucous, fun moments at the kingdom hall when you were contemplating eternity and having the times of your lives...did you ever speculate about what life would be like?
for example, would you have to walk everywhere or would you be able to fly around like superman?

It's cute when a Mormon insults the beliefs of JWs.
About as cute as when I heard a talk in the kingdom hall from a brother describing the mormon beliefs and why they were false.
