More Cultural Differences - Strictness Levels & Demographic
by creativhoney infrom what i read on these threads it seems to me that the usa is a lot stricter than the uk, in all aspects of the religion.
- is this a general cultural thing, ie a lot of middle america are still a godfearing bunch, or just a witness thing, maybe a bit of both, and if anyone could provide examples of strictness, lets see how the same situation would be handled in the uk?
and is it easier going in cities than the country counterparts?

Ex-Witnesses in Ireland...
by jdhf inhey there....i've been noticing that there are quite a few support groups in other countries for those who leave the 'truth'.
i am appealing to those who are in the emerald isle to see if there is any chance we can get together and enjoy 'real' association, being of same minds etc.
anyway... i will put this out there and hopefully those in ireland will get in touch and we can support each other!

Madrid Zone talk
by wantarevolution inok - so we were visiting friends in madrid this weekend, and went to the zone talk.
around 13500 in attendance at an old bull ring and the talk was given by david splane.
improvements for the field were to make sure that everyone is preached to - there is a tendency just to preach to south americans and ignore spanish people - also magazine placements are down, they have to be improved.

How important are the US witnesses for the WTBTS survival?
by dgp ini understand the number of witnesses is not growing much, or is actually decreasing, in a few originally important countries.
i also understand that growth in the united states come from non-white and possibly non-american congregations, and that the wtbts' growth, as a whole, comes from developing countries (latin america, maybe africa).
i notice that the training school for missionaries, gilead, is in the united states.

stupid hypocritical thinking
by wantarevolution inso with the watchtower on sunday, and the no3 talk last night - it got me thinking.
both the watchtower and by default the talk last night spoke about how "christians" view life on earth as transitory, and waiting for their reward in heaven.
the tone was "how stupid are they".

Did the JW's really get treated better in north Ireland?
by highdose ini remember hearing about all the trouble there, and how the power factions left the jw's alone though because they knew they were nutral.
now that i'm questioning the rubbish i've been taught all my life, i'm starting to question it too.
it certainly would not fit in with everything i've heard that went on there.. any ideas?.

vaguelyinteresting - catholic youth festival -spain
by wantarevolution invisiting madrid this week, heard an intersiting bit of "theocratic warfare" that'll be going on this summer during the popes visit for the youth festival.. .
witnesses from various halls, both english and spanish are being trained to infultrate the youth conventions to ask "what's going on" and then offer watchtowers/awakes about jesus.. .
there are training sessions at the bethel in torrejon - i have heard this first hand.

How do the French worldlings view the non kissy dubs?
by hamsterbait inokay - we all know that in many cultures embracing and kissing of cheeks is part of good manners - like in the english speaking world we shake hands.. i was told by a french friend that to pull away when somebody goes to kiss your cheek in a social situation is as rude as snatching your hand behind your back when offered a handshake.
(i cringe though when somebodys child whom i have never met offers each cheek in turn to be kissed in social introductions.).
i note that the kissing is more common in the south.
