An important consideration on cruises is that if they fly under a foreign flag they are NOT under US minimum wage laws. Very important to remember when tipping the guy that makes up your room every day!

What's Your View on Tipping?
by minimus intypically, i give at least 20% on my total bill.
if the service or the waitress is especially charming, maybe more.. i wonder, when you sit at a bar/restaurant and have a meal and drinks and then order a take out ( i do this for my mother quite often) are you supposed to tip on everything, including the takeout??.
when i stay in a hotel, i typically leave 2 or 3 dollars per day for the maid.

Would you call me an apostate?
by AwSnap in....or be worried that i was 'checking out apostate sites' if a scenario like this happened?....
let's say theres a birthday for a loved one in my jw family.
i have been out of the troof for a very long time but rarely make comments that disagree with their beliefs.

Apostate might be a bit harsh but definitely a "pagan" a "stumbler" and other such.

i was baptised when i was 18 - because of an earlier boyfriend, who wouldnt be with me when i was not.
now i really hate him for it... it would have been so much easier if ive never got baptised.

Move again. Don't tell your parents where. Tell them you are in the "witness protection program"..well you are..just a different one.

Convention 2009 - My best friend gets "love bombed" back in the "truth" and his sad SMS!!!!
by Witness 007 ini was so happy when my best friend {a witness} since childhood tells me he has doubts about the org.
and how brothers are "two faced" and the "false prophecies", and how he "needs a woman soon or he'll visit a brothel".... he had not gone to meetings for months and his mum blamed me although he didn't need much convincing.
well we went to the convention to please family and he enjoyed the lavish attention he got from so many "loving" brothers.

I always just felt nauseated when mom told me that the "friends" were asking about me. I suppose I am one of those people that just tends to decisively make up my mind. Don't give up on your friend but don't push too hard or you might lose the link with him that enables you to plant those important lifeline seeds of doubt.

How did they spread?
by stillin9 inconsidering the truth about the truth, how the heck did they manage to spread around the world and at least have a witness in most of the countries/lands???.

Using very effective control tactics such as "love bombing" and ensuring that they had exposed new recruits to counter arguments before they heard them (making it seem like they must be right). They also ensured a high degree of hours/committment so that recruits are less likely to back out.

So If Someone's been Pagan they can't be RE-instated???
by ziddina ini noticed this comment by awen on cyberjesus' thread about needing help because the elders were going to call and he wanted to perform an intervention.... awen wrote: "i was informed by one of the elders (not the po, but someone with "pull") that because i had been involved in paganism after i was disfellowshipped, that i would have to wait longer for reinstatement than for the immorality i was originally dfed for 10 years before that.
i pleaded my case that i was no longer practicing that and had been out of it for a year prior to seeking reinstatement and that it shouldn't matter.
i came to learn from this elder that because of my pagan practices, in his opinion i would never be reinstated....".

I imagine it would vary by area and by practice. Someone who is pagan but just celebrated nature might be a different case than someone practicing magic, casting spells, identifying as a witchcraft practioner, using divination etc.
Would love to see some official publication/stance confirming.

i paid $2 for a powerball ticket, so now i need to figure out how to spend my winnings.

Lol you sure bet they wouldn't turn it down. "It is not up to our conscience to ascertain where the money came from if it is giving with a cheerful spirit..."

Hi - new kid on th block
by nearlyfree ini have been looking at this website for about 2 months now and feel i am now ready to say hi and intoduce myself.i dont want to give out too much info at this point in time as i still am in the org, but have only been to 2 meetings since the district convention in august and last time i went out on service was in march.
i was basically raised in the truth as my parents became jw when i was 2. i was married in my late teens and after 21 years of being married to a total control freak he left me (yay).
anyway since me ex left, i had been doing a lot of thinking about being a witness, and i wasnt really going to a lot of meetings - just didnt feel like it.

Of course you believed. You were raised in it. No shame. You know the real "truth" now. Take heart for the future belongs to the brave.

Impromptu Survey - 2 Types of Reasons to Leave
by AdaMakawee ini was thinking, not counting those who are df'd for "conduct," it seems to me that there are two type of exjws that leave.
by this i mean the ones that woke up and came to their senses while still inside.
1. those who found doctrinal errors and couldn't stay with the lies.. 2. those who found that there was no love and left because of the betrayal of emotions, and realization that by this fruit you knew they were not the ones, their lack of love.

It started off as the fact that I believed I deserved a relationship and the JWs didnt believe gays deserved as much. After that google took over and the whole dogma became a house of cards.
