Legal Eagles
by link invarious media reports indicate that the wbts often employs the services of a large number of lawyers and i have seen it suggested that some of the top legal minds amongst them are in fact jehovahs witnesses.. since a qualified and experienced lawyer will have been trained in the art of digging out and scrutinising factual information, how come these people are jw?s?
if they applied their training, to the lest extent, to an examination of "the truth" (tm) it would quickly be seen as a load of bull puckey, even by a halfwit.
it could not possibly stand up to proper scrutiny by a person trained and qualified in the legal profession.

The Charity Commission for England and Wales
by link inin another thread outoftheorg said he was unaware that all congregations in the u.k (except scotland) were registered with the charity commission for england and wales.
the following link will take you to the first web page of the names of all these congregations.
it shows the name of the presiding overseer (correspondent), his address and often his telephone number.

Does this say something about credibility?
by link ini have recently come to realise that although i am acquainted with a few hundred jehovahs witnesses, i do not know of any who "came into the truth" who are fully qualified and working full time in the following areas: historian, archaeologist, astronomer, psychologist, psychiatrist or any closely related subject that requires education to degree level.. i appreciate that jws do not encourage education to degree level and because i live in a university town i am more likely to know "worldly people" in all of the above professions.. of the jws that i know who are educated to degree level and working in a profession related to their training, one is an engineer and three are in art subjects.. it is interesting that the professions that i have mentioned above are all ones in which "the truth" could not be accepted by any qualified person who properly investigated the claims of the society.
on the other hand the two historians, the archaeologist and the astronomer that i know, are all regular church-goers (not all the same denomination) and consider themselves christians.. can anyone on the board contradict my experience?
it seems to me that it makes a point.. link

Anointing?
by link ini have recently been trying to get my head round the subject of anointing.
i have not had much success so was hoping that someone on the board might be able to help.. my understanding is that gods early kings had oil placed on their heads and received his holy spirit at the time of their appointment.
the process of placing the oil on the head is properly referred to as anointing but when this practice ceased it was the receipt of the holy spirit that was known by this term.

SOMETHING VERY STRANGE?
by link ina number of threads have been started recently on the call by someone known as anthony last, at his web site www.formulisn.org, to end organised religion.
his proposal to the united nations is dated 27 jan. most of the u.s.a. is several hours behind europe due to differences in time zones.. how is it then that j.w.s throughout europe were swapping the story via e-mail, under various extreme headings like "the time of the end", on 27 january.
i got one from the north of england and one from southern spain.

Possible Anti - Apostates here on JWD.
by link inthis is obviously in response to the thread "possible apostates here on jwd" started by flying high now.
it was clearly not intended to be taken seriously but it does reflect another possibility that should be considered seriously and that is that there are anti-apostates on this board.. i do not consider myself to be a particularly paranoid person but i have seen signs of things that do not seem quite right to me.
so what do i mean and how would an anti-apostate operate here?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

can anyone explain to me a little of what this is about.
if i got my jw wife to agree to treatment, is it possible that she would come to see what i already know - the lifestyle and belief system is destroying her health.

The Princess Diana Memorial Fund
by link inthis is a u.k. charity set up to the memory of princess diana.
according to the u.k. newpapers it has, over the past two years, been badly burned to the extent of 14m by bad investments in the stock market.
the society says that an investment in stocks "differs from gambling".

Is it the Organisation or is it the people in It?
by link inlike all non-jws with jw families i have to endure constant pressure to "accept the truth" and their latest effort comes from "ammunition" contained in two articles in the awake of 22 january 2004.. the article starting on page 3 "god has a name" is supposed to present evidence that gods name is jehovah but i can see no evidence of this in the article.
in fact the article is quite balanced and clearly says on page 4 that ".....the name jehovah is widely accepted as the vernacular equivalent of the tetragrammaton".
this is the extent of the articles assertions.. i find nothing wrong with this statement but it is an entirely different thing to saying that "gods name is jehovah", even though all of the language used in the article is steering the reader to accept this thought.
