Book - Parenting Beyond Belief: On raising caring ethical children without
by kwintestal inbook - parenting beyond belief: on raising caring ethical children without religion.. i just wanted to point out this book to other jwdr's.
i just finished reading it last week and i thought it would be good to post on here, not only for atheist or secular parents, but also those in "religious limbo" for example those who have just left a religion and don't want to join another and don't necessarily know what or how to explain things to their kids.. it is comprised of a series of essays by various intellectuals and covers various subjects such as religious tolerance and education, encouraging your children to think and explore their thoughts, holidays and how to handle them, how to explain the "big questions" and ways to seek community.. personally, i think that the book kind of pushes universal unitarianism in several points throughout.
it's subtle pushing but it's there none-the-less, but other then that it's actually put together very well.

So how did the folks in YOUR congregation react to this week's KM?
by Dead Man Joaquin inyou know, the one where independent bible research is forbidden, er, discouraged.. .
did anybody actually have the balls to say, "the society does not say such activities are forbidden or discouraged, just not endorsed?
" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

"New light"...
by Awakened07 inthis won't be a long-winded post; just a "quickie", and mostly meant for those still active:.
i find it odd that jehovah's witnesses don't find anything odd about how 'new light' is distributed.
i mean - if this new light comes from jehovah god himself, the creator of the universe and everything in it, wouldn't it be fair to say that it would happen more like in this story:.

AlanF Interview with Creation Book author Harry Peloyan 1997
by besty inthis has possibly been posted before (i hadn't seen it) - i found it a fascinating read - well done alanf for fronting it up..... it can also be found online at http://www.reexamine.org/wtobserver/apps/pbcs.dll/article86c8.html?aid=/20040309/history/204007.
interview with a watchtower society author on wednesday, 27 august 1997, i met with harry peloyan for about 1 1/2 hours in the lobby of the 25 columbia heights bethel office in brooklyn, new york.
my purpose was to discuss problems with the creation book with him, since he is its main author.

Irish jwd'ers: Your culture and pastimes
by rebel8 inok so after complaining about my city's pathetic tradition of celebrating st. pat's day by mass alcohol poisoning, i thought i would try to find out some actual cultural things about ireland.
i tried the internet but almost everything i found was either pictures of green beer or drunk americans holding plastic shamrocks next to their green beer.
to paraphrase myself, it is so sad to boil an entire culture down to alcohol and tacky decorations.
