i mean, i know i'm bitter.. normally these days quite strong, not feeling so much so much the last few days though.. what i'd give to do the things i was used to.
going doing the weekly shop with my mum, her popping round for a brew in the morning.. a hug from her, just to to know from the way she communicated with me, that she loved me.
i miss her so much.. and what if i'm wrong?.
If we are wrong (and the WTBTS are right), Jehovah will soon eradicate 99,9% of the world's population, men, women, children and elderly, and a great deal who have never even heard of Jehovah. And he'll be justified in doing so, and the survivors' memories of this world will be wiped.
If we are wrong, mankind is only 6000 years old, and there was a global flood ~4000 years ago with no (real) physical evidence left behind. If we are wrong, there's no such thing as evolution.
If we are wrong, "all scriptures are inspired"; in other words, the entire Bible is inspired, which is curious, as at the time that verse was written, the 'holy texts' used and considered inspired were different from the ones comprising the Bible today.
If we are wrong, Jehovah dispenses 'new light' (or new understanding) to his only chosen channel in this special time in mankind's history, in a way that it first is right, then is wrong so he retracts it, then embellishes, then retracts, then comes up with a totally new understanding, then goes back to a previous one... etc. etc.
I'm sure I could go on and on.
-But I understand the feelings you have. I think it sneaks up on us all from time to time, although it gets better with time.
what do you suppose life would be like if only eve ate the apple, but adam refused?
She would've been replaced, just like Lillith.
-Hey Adam, come over here, lie down, and I'll fashion another one, this time from the middle toe of your left foot. You'll still have nine toes total afterwards, so.
Sorry folks, I'm in a silly mood. It is April fools day after all.
i was hoping for some help on proving that a paradise earth is in fact a true teaching.
i've only found 3 that use the word "paradise" - but not sure if it refers to an earthly paradise.. thanks!.
.
Umm.... You want us to help you prove that there will be a future paradise earth? That can't be proven, I'm afraid.
But if by 'prove' you mean 'show from the Bible', I'm not sure even JWs really point to a lot of scriptures in order to show this.
They do point to a couple of scriptures, like Jesus saying that the 'meek shall inherit the earth', and that the guys in Revelation are going to rule over the earth.
But overall, I think it's more of a logical construct, based on the story of how the two first humans were placed in such a place, were told to multiply, and it's therefore inferred that if they had remained loyal, their descendants would have cultivated the entire earth into becoming a paradise as well, and we'd live happily ever after. And so it's further inferred that that paradise will be 're-created' in the future.
JWs believe Adam & Eve were created to live forever in that paradise, but as far as I know, not all Christians agree with that (come to think of it, I guess no other Christians do - it would kind of negate the whole 'spirit going to heaven' thing).
I'm not really sure what other Christians say the point of the physical earth and universe is, since we're all going to heaven anyway in the end according to them. I did ask once in a topic, but it's hard to get a straight answer sometimes.
I don't really care either way anymore.

Hey - let's do some "Armageddon's so close" jokes!
"Armageddon's sooo close!
-How close is it?
It's soooo close, it makes Donny and Marie seem unrelated in comparison."
Your turn.
when i was in and documentaries came on the telly about human fossils being found dated 800 000 years old or 1.2 million years old i would always say - they surely must have the dating process wrong (hello - i'm not expert) or would try find a loop whole to make sure that the belief of mans' 6/7000 year existance.. i also used to reason that they were probably a species of apes or forgeries - anything to make myself believe we as jws' were right - i did this without even "thinking" really - like breathing.. i even studied science & biology at school and would also have to come up with ""excuses"" for this or that.
ag what did we know we were only kids, but when you become an adult and have adult reasoning faculties one can't ignore the facts.. so what did you create as a safe bubble when things like this came up?.
.
I always laughed at the 'millions' and 'billions' of years, as this was the custom at my house. I was always interested in science, especially astronomy and archeology, I just thought the Bible (the way I had been taught it) had to be right since it was the word of God, and He should know...
I also thought to myself that these ancestors were just types of apes that are now extinct, and - - well, I was right, but they are still our ancestors. But back then, there were much fewer discoveries, and biology (DNA research) hadn't really entered into it yet (well - that may be wrong; more likely it was just that this research hadn't reached me yet, for obvious reasons). I didn't know much about evolutionary theory other than a misunderstood version of it, and didn't know about the various radiometric dating methods outside of Carbon 14. I also of course thought that some of it was the forgeries of some overzealous scientists out to get fame and fortune, and/or an opportunity to deny God's existence.
I had a very skewed view of science from my upbringing. On the one hand, science was great, but on the other hand, not to be trusted once they contradicted our view of the Bible. "Mustn't forget also that Satan is pulling his strings"....
-Would I read a medical dictionary, form my own opinions of medicine, and then go to a hospital to tell the doctors and surgeons that they're doing it all wrong, from the ground up? I've come to understand that - although of course fallible - real scientists are actually specialized professionals with a sense of pride in their work like anyone else, and to say that anthropologists, archaeologists, biologists etc. etc. don't know what they're doing is an insult, just like going to any other professional and saying the same. Especially if the person pointing it out is not even educated in the field. When the scientists say that 'this and this ape was our ancestor', they're not saying it simply because there's a superficial likeness, but they actually examine the bones carefully, often several specimens of the same ape, and see homologous features that - when compared to the other specimens - show a progression over time, since these bones are also found in different strata. Add to that comparative DNA research on living apes, and we're getting somewhere.
recently it was after a raining morning, the sun came out and the rainbow appeared.
my jehovah's witness father-in-law turns to me and says, "there is the symbol that jehovah will not flood the world again.
" i started laughing and responded, "no, that is just what myth explained it to be in the past.
Oh my god:
It's good to see he hasn't let his mind get clouded by the evil scientists of our day, but instead relies on the never changing facts in his holy book. Seriously though, there are still Bible believing flat earth'ers out there too, but hopefully both the Koran and Bible -based varieties of these people are very small minorities. Curious that this guy actually got air time though, although it's hard to know without the proper context (what kind of program it was etc.). -There are still people out there in the western world who believe that the earth is 6000 years old as well.

just browsing the site for kicks, and this annoyed me.
typical jw attitude - with the readership they supposedly have, they could have made a real difference ... encouraged all jw's to recycle, buy carefully etc.
Doesn't Revelation say, God will destroy those who pollute the Earth?
Those who destroy the earth, yes.
JWs preach that since God will fix earth 'imminently', 'very soon', they feel that things like philanthropy is a waste of time, time that should be spent preaching that the end is imminent. If philanthropy is a waste of time because it can never be done to perfection and eliminate the causes of the problems, and because Jehovah will fix it all soon, then the same can be said for many other things one could do to improve our living conditions and the environment. JWs think they are exempt from being "destroyers of earth" (that's just everyone else, of course) among other reasons because they are few, but that doesn't mean they're not adding to the total pollution of earth. They're in the same boat as everyone else, and should of course carry their weight when it comes to environmentalism and philanthropic endeavors. Other religions don't seem to have this problem, probably because - although they believe God will make a 'new heaven and earth' - they don't profess to know when it will happen, or even if it will happen any time soon.in the new may awake magazine there is an article "is philanthropy the answer?
i knew what the answer.
was going to be before i even read it.
It would be fine IF IT WERE TRUE!!!
Even then it wouldn't really be fine.
What is it about this religion that makes it feel that current suffering is A-OK since it'll be done away with sometime in the future? How many people have died from poverty and deceases in the time JWs have been active, and how many could they have helped? "The good news" - even if true - haven't happened yet, and many people have lived and died while JWs have preached this 'good news'."The success of philanthropy will always be limited. Why? For one thing, neither money nor a good secular education can eliminate such problems as greed, hatred, prejudice and false religious beliefs. Accordingly, rather than set up philanthropic organizations, Jehovah's Witnesses prefer to devote their time and financial resources to announcing the good news of God's Kingdom."
What kind of bullsh*t reasoning is this!? You can apply this to any problem in the world; "We probably can't eliminate it, so why even try" !?
Why try stopping pollution and come up with better technologies, why try to come up with new medicines, why try anything!? And it's not even true - - when we actually do try, there is a real chance we can eradicate certain problems. One thing is for certain: If we don't try, nothing good will happen. How frickin' gullible must one be to believe this cr*p!? Sorry.this is sick: .

The stupefying thing is that this even now probably makes perfect sense to them. How many times haven't we heard "God hears prayers, but sometimes the answer is no." ? In other words, whatever happens - or not - it's God's will.
Reminds me of the joke where a guy throws some cookies in the air and says to God that He should take them as a gift, but if He doesn't want them, the guy will eat them himself. So he tosses the cookies up in the air, and of course they come back down, God has "answered", and the guy can eat the cookies.
I've only read a news story in my own language on this, and in it the parents said "All we have now is our faith in God." or words to that effect. Pretty amazing stuff.
But to them of course, their child is currently in the best of care in heaven. So it's easy to rationalize for them, I'd imagine.
