Recently it was after a raining morning, the sun came out and the rainbow appeared. My Jehovah's Witness father-in-law turns to me and says, "There is the symbol that Jehovah will not flood the world again." I started laughing and responded, "No, that is just what myth explained it to be in the past. Before science could advance enough to explain what it really was." Basically where every there is moisture in the air and light shining threw it, there will be a rainbow. If you were on Mars and put some mist in the air, and light, you would have a rainbow. Yet here is my father-in-law telling us all the same stupid myth we heard as Witnesses, "That the rainbow was a symbol given to Noah to show god would not flood the earth again." Wow, the power of myth. Do your Witness relatives still hold to this one?
You know, Science did explain the rainbow!

Yes, they do. They still teach that there was a canopy of water in the skies around the earth and at the flood
this canopy broke and drenched the earth in a flood of water. Afterwards, without the canopy, the sun's rays
could now shine fully onto the earth and this created the rainbow....a natural sign yet still from our creator.

So crazy and what is different from that believe, from a belief that Atlas holds the world on his back.

It's interesting that the cloud canopy theory is physically impossible. All one has to do is look at the cloud canopies on other worlds to see the effects. In order to have enough water, the cloud canopy would have to be so thick that it would put an incredible amount of pressure on earth's atmosphere. As we all know, more pressure equals more heat. A cloud canopy would turn the earth into a pressure cooker, rendering life as we know it impossible.

You can make a rainbow with a hose on fine mist and sunlight.....Noah? Rubbish!!.............however, I do still believe there is a pot of gold at the end of one.....but I never seem to get there in time...damn!

Is that why Venus is so hot? We see it through an all encompassing cloud. It is closer to the sun, but still, it is covered by greenhouse-like clouds. It would make sense.

If crystals were discovered before the "flood," then people would have seen rainbows er crystalbows. Also, all they would have to do is look at a waterfall and see a rainbow. The mist and shower from them create rainbows.

I am on such a roll here. How about solar panels? Hmm? How about those water tanks put in the sun to heat and give off a lot of heat? Hmm? OK, thanks to this thread, I can successfully argue against the flood. The food in frozen animals' mouths prove an ice age, not a flood. That food would have rotted or floated out of the animals' mouths in the flood way before they were frozen in the Arctics. They found FRESH food in their mouths. Quick freeze while still alive, not drowned.

That was another of their stupid myths that they use to give God credit for an action that actually happens every time light is scattered. Water droplets refract light (and so does a prism) into its colors, and that's what we see as the rainbow. Any good book on weather or optics will tell you that.
And the University of Asleep! is supposed to be better than any college education.
