  Could it happen here?

  this thread, and others like it, got me thinking that, if this board is representative of society, there is definitely an anti-theist wind blowing in western nations, much more so in europe than here in the united states.

  could it happen here as it happened there?.

  The difference is, in our country the fanatics are religious, not athiest. As long as we have 50%++ of this country that is willing to base public policy on 2000 year old adopted, translated, adjusted manuscripts, I don't think anyone will outlaw religion.

  And the "liberal elites" don't want to outlaw any free speech. I don't fear that what happened in the Soviet Union will happen here anytime soon. I do fear that the religious right will play a key role in stripping our civil liberties, punishing politicians who are not religious, forcing their ideals on our schools, courthouses, medical research policy, zoning laws, etc, etc, etc.....Oh wait- that already happened....

  Self-empowerment is the key. We need more of that on this board. Sometimes there's too much negativity, victimism, and self-doubt here.

  NEW TRACT CAMPAIGN PLANNED....

  ....for october 20 - november 16.. there is a new tract to be introduced, with the title "do you want to know the truth?".

  it is not a "kingdom news" campaign - after the campaign, this tract will join the "regular rotation" of tracts to be used in the field misery.. it is designed to replace the "do you want to know more about the bible" tract - the goal is to use it to start "bible" studies.. the goal is to cover all of the congregation's territory in 4 weeks, similar to other campaigns in the past.

  unlike other campaigns, though, the congregations can order as many as they would like - they are not limited to 50 per publisher.

  Stay or leave your spouse after leaving JWs - Do you have regrets?

  i am in a situation that many of you have faced... whether to stay with my spouse or not after having learned the falsehood of the org.. my wife is diehard witness who gets upset whenever i talk about the org negatively.

  she is not happy that i am on jwd... in fact the other day she picked up the keyboard and wanted to throw it accros the room or bash me with it when she saw i was on jwd... she is also very upset about me making friends with "apostates" and worldly people, and told me never to bring them to our home!

  this concerns me, since i am not going to have any friends in the org, and i need at least a few friendships...she doesn't want me to talk to the friends in the cong about my decision so that i don't share my doubts.

  Personally, when I saw the light, my relationship with my wife improved. She was much less indoctrinated than I. When I finally got my head out of my a** and could dump the JW personality (like Cognac's husband) I had much more time for my family and could be much more honest and loving. No borg thought censoring your every statement. I am very glad that my wife didn't go ape on me when she first had doubts. Things might be different now.

  how many people hear that from the a$$emblies?

  the funny thing, if we kept following the advice, the "more than the usual" would become the usual.

  and there is only so much attention one can pay to the topic at hand.. and especially when it is the same crap you have heard every year since you were two.

  Funny, if people would pay better attention, they might catch the logical fallicies, attempts at thought control and outright contradictions. So I say- Yes pay good attention, and think too while you're at it.

  Further Education - WTS ups the pressure

  the wts are upping their opposition to further education.. at our recent co visit , much of a talk on youth concerned the evils of college & university education.. the meeting of the elders & ms included a similar but harder line section , stating that the appointed men should set an example.

  the question was raised does an elder continue to qualify for his privilege if he , his wife , or his child goes to further education.

  what attitude is he showing regarding the fds stated view on this matter?.

  this weekend i helped a friend - a professional photographer - with his photo shoot of nearly 200 little leaguers.

  i was apprehensive beforehand as the paperwork (my job) can easily go wrong and i hate crowds.. well, everything went well and i discovered two things: .

  My son's little league team, and soccer team have been one of the great joys of my life. There is no feeling like coaching a group of 7 and 8 year old and watching them "get it". Youth sports are so good on so many levels. I am so glad I woke up while he was still young enough to enjoy this part of childhood.

  This is interesting- 2 study articles about how to be a good missionary. Tells me that there may be some problems in this department. Maybe missionaries are coming home after a few years- dissillusioned and bent out of shape??? Maybe they are getting complaints from local congregations about superior, know it all missionaries coming in trying to tell everyone that their local customs are not biblical???

  No statistics are published about the number of active missionaries- but I bet there is a story to be told there. I wonder what the average retention time is for a missionary??? Anecdotally, I would say about 2 years.

  Its all about the cost of doing business in NYC. Brooklyn used to be a prime location on the docks. Now anywhere near a highway is a prime location. Just easier and cheaper to do business in upstate than in NYC.

  Try driving to Brooklyn. Then try driving to Patterson. Which is cheaper? Patterson by a long shot. Cost of everything delivered to NYC is more because of the tolls, congestion, etc.
