my intent with the title of this thread was to attract both believers and non-believers.
whenever a thread appears promoting the wonders of jesus, it will inevitably develop into a back and forth discussion ad nauseam.. i was born into a family that believed there was a god, he had a son jesus and his word was the bible.
I am completely ANTI- organised rel;igion of any sort!
I wouldnt say that reading this board has made me give any more thought to jesus, but then maybe its just early days for me; and the mention of the jesus/ god anything makes me recoil in horror!!

there is a disturbing trend in my area that desperately needs attention from headquarters.
congregations are getting together for picnics, parties, "fun nights", etc.
this shocking disregard for theocratic order reached a head recently when what should have been termed a "get together" was flagrantly referred to as "the congregation picnic"!!!

about 3 years i decided enough of being "content" with the fact that i had a decent job, if i was going to work, i wanted to do something that i loved.
i've always wanted to get into medicine.
but being that i was 23, married, owned a home, worked full time and never went to college, it wasn't going to work out for me to just enter into college and then proceed onto medical school.

If this is what you really want you will do it one day. It may not be immediately, you may find more children/(eek!) and family responsabilities come your way, but one day soon these things will subside, and you will have the time, determination and support to be everything you ever wanted to be.
I understand you feeling melancholy. Our association with the borg only places sooo much guilt onto our shoulders. But you time for the carreer of your choice will come.

one thing that bugs me about the witnesses that surround me is their interpretation of what's worldly or not.. i'm surrounded by money focused people, who have to have such expensive things, clothing, go to bars or clubs, drink enough to be buzzed real good, if not a bit drunk, party goers, gossipers, lyers, foul immoral thinking ones...should i go on?.
so where does a witness draw their own line in the sand?
this is where i see hypocracy flourish.
Their interpretation is whatever the madd arse dubs make it, and more oftern than not its influenced locally;
When I was a kid I wasn't allowed a 'perry' haricut... coz it was worldly, and split in my skirt...coz it was worldly, to die my hair... coz it was worldly. Listen to Frankie goes to hollywod, coz it was worldly.

Personal opinion is that parents are too afraid to upset the local dubs for fear their kids will get labelled as bad assosiation, and OF COURSE, that would be reflection upon them and their parental skills!

i stopped going to meeting over a year ago (profile explains why) and have enjoyed doing all the stuff that comes with being a non-witness; ie going out, meeting new people, lying in on a sunday, never having to wear dowdy skirts, etc.
however since coming on the forum and commenting more, i have realised that eventually i will wonder about faith again.
i still have a bible, the nwt, and even though some may say it's not a good version i do find it pleasant to read, and it's what i'm used to.

IMHO, the witlesses are discouraging ppl from takin up higher education in order to 'suck' these youngsters into the fold, before theyve had a chance to experience outside life, make friends, and realise that there is a whole world out there.
I also wanted to go to college, but leaving high school in 1986, my parents dictated that I wouldn't! I ended up a shelf stacker in a supermarket. Incidentally, I mean do disrespect to supermarket staff; however what I'm trying to say is that isn't what I really wanted to do.
Only 4 years ago, when my children were olde enough to take care of themselves, I realised that I had to go for it. I "blagged' a full time job working in an office. Had never doen this before, but took to it like a duck to water. Made rapid progress to a Managerial position, and now find myself a Regional administration Manager for a Major cinema chain in the uk.
Since my departure from the borg, I have been seeing a therapist, and one of the thing we discussed was out everything was taken out of my control when i was 16. My life was mapped out for me by my parents, who were under the direction of the borg! I've seen snippets of the dc talks about further education on m,y space, and I just think its so sad; and like I mentioned at the start these youngsters are just sucked into this life under pressure from family and witless friends. Inevitably it will come back to bite them, these youngsters will one day wake up and realise theyve wasted so much time trying to please men!
