Perry, the scholars do not agree on this. I am sure you can link many quotes from those with degrees related to accepting theology that agree with you, but there are many scholars who do not believe what you say. You probably don't define 'scholar' the way educated people do. Most scholars are atheists nowadays, so where do you categorize them to say all scholars agree?

There are many things in the universe we don't understand, but we invented this "God" snd placed him where we don't understand. At first, he wasn't outside of our realm until we got educated enough to know what the 'heavens' are. We continued to have our God-of-the-gaps. Now that we understand enough about time and space, we removed God from it, but keep him in it at the same time. Its a great story with not a shred of reality found. There are wondrous things out there we don't understand, but the God of the Bible is an invention of men and isn't out there.

You are misleading, being dishonest to try to wedge a slight doubt about what is unknown to Man into a god that I (and others) don't understand when you don't even believe that yourself- you only accept that God is fully the one that your brand of Christianity says he is. So you cannot have your cake and eat it too.

Also I asked before Perry - The bible says god lives in a specific place - HEAVEN. DId HEAVEN exist before god, is it co-eternal with god, did god make heaven himself, if so when did he make it? How long was he around before he made heaven? If he was COMPLETE in himself, why did he need heaven?

Hey, God exists outside of space and time so that universal laws and beginnings do not apply to him, but if it is convenient, then he has a physical place of "dwelling." If it is not convenient, it is a metaphor.

It's all so simple. Just like the Bible. It's very literal until it is demonstrated that it cannot be literal, then it is symbolic. It is scientifically accurate in its literalness until it is not, then it was speaking metaphorically.

Jesus was not "created" but is part of that Trinity....unless you refer to other scriptures that suggest otherwise, then some part of it is symbolic....depending on which doctrine Perry or others want to believe in.
It's all so simple. Where is the argument?

I get that your ex was probably hoping it was best for the child to simply have visits via her arrangement because she thinks it shields the daughter from the shunning issue, but it actually shields the JW's from their own shunning issue.

The answer was already covered but I still find it amazing that ex-JW's need the Internet and discussion so much more than other groups. You don't see as much EX Mormons discussion or videos or hardly any EX anything else on the internet. But we're still a small percentage of a small percentage of the population.

You are not overreacting. It's very difficult, and would be very difficult on your daughter to be cut off from family she already knows, but I would seriously consider getting some court order against unsupervised visits with such relatives as they will just be trying to indoctrinate her.

It is unverifiable, but I read this and really believe it stands on its own merit:

No large group of people, including the Jews of the time, ever lived by the laws of the Bible.

All the strict rules about keeping certain holidays and setting Israelite slaves free after so many years and endless rules about cleanness and sacrifice at the temple and YADDA YADDA YADDA, all of them were written after the time when people would have supposedly lived by them, and they didn't live by them at that time.

Starting a X-Cult support group. Any suggestions?

mrs. add and i have seen a need in our area for this.

it all started over month ago when she gave her yearly talk on what is a cult at our local uu congregation.

their was several newcomers in the audience who have recently left the high control cults.

Religious cult recovery is quite different from addiction. Be careful and don 't try to morph the 12 steps. Don't say that your people must declare that they are/were helpless to the cult and came to believe a higher power can give them strength or guidance.

Stick with just allowing people to say they were affected by a group or set of beliefs and desire to share with others like them. Tolerate no bullying of any current beliefs within your group, from atheism to non-Christian beliefs.

Oh, that is so funny. The jury has already returned on that issue.

The Bible actually hurts the idea that there might be a god because so many people believe it represents such a god.

No proof exists. I don't believe in fire-breathing dragons or "God" without proof. The Bible made it easier to realize that.

Boyfriend force me to study the bible or no marriage

my boyfriend, who is a disfellowshipped jehova's witness, asks me to study the bible for 3 months or he won't marry me (i'm a muslim woman).

he loves me and really wants to marry me but he is doing a passive blackmailing: if i don't study for 3 months, 1 time per week, in my home country, and without him, there will be no marriage... as a muslim, i believe the bible is god's word so i look at the bible from time to time and would be happy to study with him.

but the fact that he is kind of saying "study the bible or bye bye no marriage" is really hurtful.

I will be a bit harsh. In Islam, many many many many men treat the women as secondary citizens. Often, in America, if I see a Muslim woman driving a nice car, it is because her husband's SON is in the car. No son, then she drives a not-so-nice car. It sounds like you are going to wind up with a non-Muslim who treats you the same way many many many many Muslim men treat the women.

You can do so much better. I don't care for the Bible or the Koran, Christianity or Islam. But your boyfriend definitely wants to dictate Christianity to you. All that would make him happy is for you to renounce your faith and become a Witness and raise children according to the Witnesses ways. Nothing short of that.
