Seems the majority consensus of opinion is 'each to his/her own'. However, what I object to is that possibly this guy tries to make others who don't have the same opinion on promiscuity as he does feel inferior.... Do you think this is the case? In his own way he is demonstrating that he feels he is the one and only 'Gods gift to Women'!!! Obviously some women agree with him, but there is nothing wrong with feeling that promiscuity is morally wrong also. 'Each to his/her own' goes both ways and I can't be doing with folk that think others prudish just because they don't live the same 'loose' life!

by free2beme ini work with a guy who sleep with a lot of different woman, and when i say a lot, i mean a lot!
i know what some are thinking, "oh he probably sleeps with a few and makes it sound like more.
" well i would think that too, if i did not actually meet a lot of these woman and work with some of them and they admit to sleeping with him on a regular basis.

Anybody here who still has faith in God and belief in the Bible?
by Sheepish inthere seems to be a lot of folks here who are bitter and want nothing to do with organized religion (understandable!
) or the belief in a god who cares about us, and has a "plan".or even anyone who has actually read and studied the bible, and understands what's going on it it.
so many just take stuff out of context looking for "mistakes" and loopholes.

Yes I still have a faith in God and a belief in the bible!! But have just been left very confused. I know now that the 'borg' don't have it right.... well they don't have it all right I should say... But anything and everything I ever learnt about the bible and God came through them, so the fact I now have a faith is due to what they taught me! I am not, and refuse to be, bitter and twisted because I now know that they got a lot of things wrong... Now is the time for me to trust that God will make all things clear in his own time.
I have a phobia about studying now! and could never contemplate getting involved in an organised religion again... but I have been left feeling deflated and have a void that I know needs filling!

Amen Mouthy!!! Never mind the disbelievers!
Orbi, I really hope this meeting will be the first of many with your son. My own youngest son is still a JW, and occasionally we have the odd conversation (which will be difficult now his dad has remarried!) but I really hope I don't have to wait 9 years before I get him back!!! Nine years is a long time in regard to growing up and gaining understanding, could be he wants to repair the bridges, I hope so much for you that this is the case. Will be thinking of you hun!!!

Question regarding my nephew
by caz ini'm the aunty of 3 the boys i wrote about a few weeks ago who had lost their jw father to suicide.
my (16 year old) nephew has come to live with me and he has been brought up as a jw all of his life, although not baptised yet.
he hasn't made one mention of them or meetings at all since his father's death, ( 4 weeks ago) other than to tell me he was very disappointed in the lack of support shown his dad by the elders of his congregation during his lowest moments of depression and to the boys since.

Once he starts to attend the meetings again this is the way it will go 1) they will try to convince him that his father's death was a result of his depression, which is a result of imperfection 2) they will try to teach him that the best way to come to terms with his grief is to immerse himself in congregation activities 3) they will also want to convince him that the only hope he has of seeing his father again is if he becomes a fully baptized witness 4) they will also try to make sure he doesn't blame them for their lack of love, and may love bomb him too to try to make up for their own guilt!
This is what you will be up against, they will be very subtle! You however, have to help him deal with his grief, while at the same time trying to help him get on with his life. He is still very young, and I think the suggestion that you go with him to a meeting then question him on various things is a good one. It would be less subtle to introduce him to this site at this stage, as he is very vulnerable and may go in totally the opposite direction to which you want him to go.... despite his doubts about the way his father was treated he may be scared to make a break with what he has known. He has been warned about apostates and will have a fear of getting involved with anything at this stage. I agree with taking him out on meeting nights, but not forcing him to decide between the two. Just help him see that there can be a good life for him outside the JW's....
Hope some of this has helped, will be thinking of you

Have we just given up
by Frogleg inif i speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, i am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
if i have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if i have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, i am nothing.
if i give all i possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, i gain nothing.. love is patient, love is kind.

I agree with defd, many of us are 'wore out'!! I love this scripture in Corinthians and I firmly believe that 'love conquers all' so live in the hope that one day I will not feel so wore out that I cannot investigate my feelings toward God and his son... at the moment the mere thought of study gives me goose bumps and tremors!!!

Like some scary movies, but they don't like me much... have nightmares!!! Doesn't stop me watching though, but don't like ones like Exorcist, or that seem demonised! Like psycho movies though.

Well now we know a bit more about you!!! I'm having a bad day at work, so will add to the ramble topic!! Trying to arrange Fire Awareness training for 200 peeps and its doing my head in!!!! Someone has turned the heating up and its roasting here or I'm having a hot flush!! Got fed up with my work so thought I would visit here for a bit of light relief! Over here they are getting ready for bonfire night, trouble is they started weeks ago and its upsetting our dogs!! Same with Halloween, they were knocking the door a fortnight before!!! I am desperately trying to pack up smoking and failing miserably!!! Hate the gloom of autumn and the dark nights and the damp. Hey don't I sound a miserable little wretch!!!
Positive's - my interests are camping, music (especially rock), walking with our dogs, dancing, drinking, playing darts!, reading, ?? astrology??, art, decorating.... Uhhhmmmm.... that'll do for now.
Anyone else gonna have a ramble????

Ok call me a 'pathological narcissist' if you like! but I used to like the idea of living forever because there is so much I want to do, so much I want to learn about, I want to spend quality life with the man I love, not the every day slog of trying to make ends meet and seeing the suffering in the world, and thinking although we don't have a lot at least we are better off than most of the world's population. I want to study insects, animals, birds, learn to horse ride, travel the world, learn to play musical instruments, swim in the ocean and study the life there... and this is only the tip of the iceberg! so as for me? well I feel this is all a pipe dream but I certainly don't think I would have been bored!!!

SCHIZOPHRENIA + JWS = ??
by lisaBObeesa ini really am upset right now, and for a wide variety of reasons.
but number one on my list right now is my worry about my aunt.
my aunt is schizophrenic and obviously off her meds.

Schizophrenia affects each person differently. The only real experience I have come across with someone who has it was horrific... This person, that I was close to, didn't take her meds the way she should have, she started hearing voices and ended up 'sacrificing' her young daughter for Jehovah!!!! and then tried to take her own life! It still makes me go cold thinking about this but it emphasises the need for someone with this disorder to have the correct medical and psychological care. Sadly she was neglected by the medical profession and the elders in her cong didn't understand her condition. The advice you have already been given is the best you could have, also for yourself to find out as much about it as you possibly can... It takes a lot of understanding and obviously your father hasn't a clue! but you could perhaps help him understand it doesn't come about as a result of spiritual weakness, it is a very real and dangerous condition for many.
