The meaning of the word "version"

i have a question.

i was recently talking to some jw acquaintances and was told that the king james version, niv all the other translations i was mentioning are just "versions " of the bible whereas the nwt is a translation.

i was stunned and could not come back with an inteligent and scholarly reply(well aint that the pot calling the kettle black did not sound neither inteligent nor scholarly).

The JW bible isn't a translation It's a New World Translation.

I think calling a bible a version is more accurate because there is always a little bias from the translators.

There never is a perfect translation from one language to another.

The JWs are arrogant and proud of their perfect translation.

i don't want to bore with the tedious details...but long story short: my husband was raised a jw.

he da and married me 6 years ago.

i was so appalled at the fact that his family shunned him that i insisted on a sit down with his mom to explain.

My mother in law defended all of our points (most from COC) by saying that we are all imperfect and the Society makes mistakes.

But, do you have to follow their rules perfectly?

What are the consequences to the society when it makes mistakes?

When did you ever hear an apology for their mistakes?

I say help the worldly people make it into the new system by not preaching to them,

this way they didn't know about the WBTS and didn't have the chance to choose.

Jehovah's Witnesses and beards

when i was a jw, i don't remember having read in the watchtower literature a rule explicitely forbidding to be bearded.

the pictures depicting "faithful witnesses" of the past (abraham, job,, moses, the apostles, etc.

) always show bearded men.

For the first approximately 10 years during his leadership of the Bible Students, Rutherford would laud and praise CTR and even stated that he was leading the movement personally while being "beyond the vail"( from the heavens after his death). So for a time the Judge actually promoted remembering CTR to retain followers. Rutherford did this because as a smart business man he knew if he had not lauded CTR at the very beginning, the society might lose even more followers after CTR died.

As time past JFR came into his own as the new WT president.He established himself without question as the new book writer and spiritual leader and president. However like first century christians who would say they were followers of different brothers like Apollos or Paul, there were brothers at Bethel who still looked to CTR as their leader and held him in very high esteem.

It was at this time that the Judge switched gears, it was time to get the brothers to forget CTR . As a result he began a slow and careful plan to get CTR out of the consciousness of the Bible Students.

He was well aware that many male members of the Bible students emulated CTR by growing long beards. The Judge thus ruled that beards were "out" in the Bethel families. He cut off the beards of Jesus, and Adam in WTS illustrations. All of the sudden, naturally recurring male facial hair was "un-Theocratic." Brothers were even told they couldn’t grow a mustache unless they wanted to lose there "privileges." It wasn't until the 70's that the mustache rule was relaxed because at that time facial hair was very popular.

This is how a JW mind works.(after a good washing)

If you do not attend the meetings, you have then cut off association with your family.

Another point: What father refers to his daughter as his wifes daughter? step child?

ok, i was reading this chapter today in my back garden and was astounded at what i had just read.

every year as long as i have been a witness vs 28 is mentioned that a man should examine himself under scutiny before eating the bread and drinking the wine.

obviously implying that only the anointed are to partake of the emblems etc.

Thus he was warning them that they should examine themselves beforehand and not be in a state of hunger or intoxicated partaking in such an important event.

I agree, and it's so obvious after it hasn't been filtered through the watchtower.

I forget, is there other scriptures they use to keep people from partaking?

What if we wrote letters to the Society.....

goodmorning all and "happy saturday"!!.

i recently had a very upsetting conversation regarding my stand with my active aunt.

for 4 hours i tried to reason with her on many issues.

Sounds like a great idea.

Does the WT really respond to all letters? I've never written the society but I might do this.

Do the elders really get notified and come a knockin cause I am only faded and I wouldn't want them back snoopin around.

Maybe the more gifted writers could do form letters on the different topics fill in your name and address.
